Runningjunkie it is good to hear how well you did on the taebo. Also way to go on getting back on the treadmill getting some interval training in. That is hard training to be sure. Just a little tip for all out there who want to run a 5k, 10k, half marathon etc... I found on runnersworld.com a place to get your individualized training program. Just go to runnersworld.com and find the "smart coach" it asks a bunch of questions. One is your current race time, I use whatever my goal may be and enter that and this thing will give you a running program for however ma weeks you would like one. It is very good and very accurate if you can keep up with it. Hope it can be useful to one of you.

Davidgeee thanks for the kind words of encouragement.

By the way I did Yoga tody and I still completely suck at it because I am just not flexible enough YET.....yes I mean YET. This yoga thing is driving me nuts and I cant wait until I can just go through it like I should.

RJ... isn't it great to do those intervals! Super way to burn off calories. You are doing great. You really are motivated. It sure helps me to read posts like yours and all those in the gun club.

Accountability...

Yesterday I ran 5k and did an ab workout at the gym immediately after the run. It was extremely hot and humid yesterday so running along the highway was murder. When I do my run from my work place, I usually shower up at the gym. I am supposed to be in recovery week and today would normally be Kenpo X, however, my run took care of the cardio. As I was walking through the gym to head for locker room, I could resist doing an ab workout before I showered up.

Today I swam 1500 yards and I got smoked by two women in the lanes next to me! They were moving! I sill have another workout to do later today.

Boomer, yeah..intervals are great...lol. Can you smell the sarcasm? I know I need to do them, I just don't like to. It's time to start training for that 10k trail race I mentioned last week. It's a great race, uphills, downhills, switchbacks, grassy fields, and 4 river crossings. No bridges, no stepping stones, just your shoes and an icy river. By the time your feet dry out from the 1st one, it's time to do it again. Last year was the 1st year we did it in Gortex trail shoes, which are great for keeping your feet dry...BUT all the Gortex in the world won't keep your feet dry when the water is ankle deep and goes OVER the tops of your shoes...lol. Bad thing about Gortex is that it keeps the water IN your shoes once it's there. But the race is fun, fun, fun! Just used that frustration from my morning yoga workout to get another 6 miles in on the treadmill. Feel a like I got a little redemtion on the day.

RJ sounds like a great race and a quite grueling as well.

Boomer you are an animal. Next time accidently go into the ladies lanes and knock them around a little bit. They wont be so fast the next time LOL

RJ... I took a look at the link of the trail race. Wow, that looks like something I would like to try!

We have a 100 mile race here called the "Hurt 100". It is very similar as it goes through valleys, hills, rivers, etc. There is a lot of climbing and mud. It is 100 miles long and has to be completed in 36 hours. Someone at work asked me if I was interested in doing it. I gave them that "are-you-nuts" look!

I don't blame you on that one! My husband thought he was going to get me to do a 30 miler with him this past February. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to pass out. He didn't do it either, but it would be something to shoot for. I prefer trail running to road running...much kinder on the knees and you can't beat the scenery.

That's great! Ah yes the airborne push-ups. Well Boomer mentioned that he likes them and I was amazed that he could do them. He told me to just try it because our minds play tricks on us and wouldn't you know, I did 1, then 2, then 3...and so on. They were really easy! Now I try everything that I have had problems with like crane, plank to chataranga run, fifer scissors, there are more. I can do just about everything Tony asks of me, but it didn't happen until phase 3. I ate a bit too many calories in phase 3 beacuse I dropped a level and didn't realize it. But, because of that I mastered most of the workouts, I had TONS of energy.

All of you guys and gals are doing great! I don't reply to most of the posts but I do receive them via email on my blackberry, they keep me motivated the entire day! I look forward to seeing a new email on my phone because I know someone pushed really hard and is sharing it. This forum is one of the main reasons I stuck with the program and the number one reason I'm doing a second round.

Keep bringing it team!

Almost forgot...did shoulders and arms yesterday morning and I pushed really hard. I upped weight on everything and stayed between 8-10 reps. I was really sore from monday and tuesday's workouts. It almost feels like my first week 1! I did yoga tonight and had to dig deep to finish because I had no energy. I may need to tweak my diet a bit but it's close. I'm sore all over!

Pat, great job! And doesn't sore all over mean it will be easier next time? It seems that way to me.

RJ and Boomer it sounds like if I were to start a running habit the maybe offroad would be easier? What do you think about that?

Bugger we are all waiting for the 'GUN' shot! And, I like your attitude toward the yoga routine. It is getting easier for me and I still get a great workout!

After a day of rest yesterday, I really didn't feel like doing Cardio X this morning. But I did and I didn't dog it! I always feel that much better at the end of the workout when I can say to myself that I tried my hardest. The heart rate was in the 160s a lot! <bye, bye fat!>

Hey everyone! I was supposed to do core this morning, and guess what? A warm, snuggly hubby won out over a sweat-fest...lol. I'll try to get to it tonight. I'm kind of sore from my run and Taebo yesterday, which is a good thing.
David, I wouldn't say that trail running is easier per se, but it is definitely easier on the knees. Dirt tends to "give" a little more than pavement. The great thing about trail running is that it is perfectly acceptable to walk portions of the course, and even the greatest runners walk at times. Plus, you get an opportunity to work entirely different muscles than you use for road running. Running on uneven terrain requires you to constanly stabilize your core to keep your balance, working those muscles in an entirely new way. I'm sore after a trail run in a completely different way than when I run on the road. Not to mention the smells of nature sure beat out the smell of exhaust and asphalt.

Pat... terrific job on those airborne push-ups. A great percentage of this workout stuff is mental. Now the door is open for you to do some pretty incredible things!

David... I like your drive. Heart rate is a great indicator of what we put into our workouts. Nice to have a couple of "old guns" in the club!

RJ... at some point I want to do a trail run. Right now I have a triathlon scheduled next month (YIKES!) and I will be doing the swim relay for a team we set up at work for the Tin Man triathlon in July. I am seriously considering training for the Honolulu Marathon coming up in December then the Honolulu Triathlon following that. I would love the opportunity to squeak in a short trail run along the way. Oh, and btw, I will be the first to admit that running is the hardest discipline for me. I have to mentally push myself to do it... but I like the challenge!

Accountability (yesterday)...

I am in recovery week. I am chomping at the bit to get back into my P90X/P90X+ strength training next week.

Swim: 1500 yards
P90X: X Stretch

I am moving my rest day to today since I will be running in a 5k charity event tomorrow and I don't want to break something today.

Boomer, you are a monster! I'd love to do a marathon, but with kids at home, it's hard to do the training. Maybe when they are out of the house? I'd like to do the Disney marathon by my 40th birthday, which gives me 5 years to train...think I can do it? Lol. Running is hard for me too, getting started is the toughest; once I get into the groove though, I'm fine.

Sorry I have been absent, it's been crazy here at the office, which is where I usually log in. Airborne, eh? Still working on clap on the knees...

Wednesday I took a rest day. Last night was week 7, so I did CS&T. I didn't have my sheet, so I had to guess my way on reps/weights. I came up a bit short on the pushups on toes, (59 down from 66) but I did up my weights in 2 exercises, so maybe I burned out a little bit. I have to do ARX tonight before Plyo.

Well, I posted my Day 1 and Day 30 pictures in my profile and I kinda felt I had done better than this. But, I see improvements and will keep going.

I have decided to switch from the Lean to Classic program at this point. Anybody see anything wrong with that?

Nope. Go for it!!

Classic has more lifting work, whereas Lean has more aerobics. I'm planning to do a run of Lean myself prior to going back to Classic, but that's because of the knee replacement and the unique needs I have.

It's nice to be able to switch them around. Your body will love you forever!!

David,

Yep, I think it makes a lot of sense. If you're lifting the way we all do in the P90 series then you get the added benefits of exercising (burning calories) and increasing muscle metabolism (burning calories) and increasing muscle growth (burning calories). Also, even when you're not exercising, muscle takes more energy to maintain than fat...it's a more metabolically active tissue.

They used to say that a pound of muscle burns 50 calories per day. Well, I think there are logical limits to that. I've posted those thoughts elsewhere in the forums. Still, keeping your muscles in shape will help you burn the fat. And, by doing these exercises, you'll be in far greater shape!!

And you won't feel nearly as guilty on those "cheat" days!

I'm done! (Well, for today that is). Round 2 here I come, tomorrow. I posted my pics in the Before & After section. I wish I would've been a bit more strict with the nutrition, but I'm pleased overall. Never had results this big in 3 months.
