Re:Gun Club 4/13 start 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 7
Good morning! I hope everyone had a good weekend. I did up until Saturday night.
Hubby and I took the kids to play tennis, and I took a break to run a quick .33 mile lap around the track. Felt really good too. Saturday morning we got up and went hiking. I guess in all we must have done close to 3 miles, the first half being uphill. I did a few sprints up portions of the climb, and was really in good form, passing hubby and all the kids. We got to a bridge that crosses the top of a waterfall, so what did I do? I jumped on the railing, hands on one side, feet on the other and did tricep dips. Why not get in a bonus tri workout is what I thought.
Everything was fine until that night when I walked across my bedroom to turn off the light and suddenly felt like someone slammed a brick into my left shoulderblade. I was in so much pain in my neck, shoulderblade, back, and into my tricep that I could not get comfortable, couldn't roll over, lay on my side or anything. The pain is easing, but it is still stiff, tight and sore. This is supposed to be week 1 of phase 2, and it's not gonna happen. I'm afraid to do anything to aggravate it, and that includes running. This week is going to be so hard; I have to really pay attention to my diet so I don't backslide too much.

RJ: Can your hubby see if it is a knot hiding somewhere, massage it? When something like that happens to me, it's usually a knot that just a little under my shoulderblade, and massaging it helps.

I took a pass on Friday, exhaustion. I did doubles on Saturday, Plyo early afternoon, then ARX and B&B in the evening. Amazing what a good workout I get when my lungs are clear! For B&B, I switched chinups to the first exercise, so I was able to do an unassisted one. I hit a new high with 90 total assisted pullups, also due I'm sure to my improved lung health. I am pulling 29-34lb for the lawnmowers, and 20lb for the back flys.

I took the day off yesterday, although I gave my 75lb daughter a piggy-back ride up the hill to our building, 5min. Yoga tonight.

Re:Gun Club 4/13 start 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 7
V, he tried to massage it yesterday morning before I got up, and it hurt so bad I was screaming. I have been living on ibuprofen. The pain is in too large of an area to just be a knot. It starts at the base of my head, extends down (only on the left side) to encompass my entire shoulderblade, halfway down my tricep, and goes down almost to my lower back. I have NEVER felt pain like that in my neck and back, and I was a CNA for 10 years. I literally could not roll over in bed for the pain. Hubby was joking with me yesterday and said that my guns went off and shot my kneck...funny.

I'm done! (Well, for today that is). Round 2 here I come, tomorrow. I posted my pics in the Before & After section. I wish I would've been a bit more strict with the nutrition, but I'm pleased overall. Never had results this big in 3 months.

Congrats on your accomplishments with P90X. You pics show your hard work. Round 2 will bring even better results especially if you commit yourself like you did in round 1.

I am looking forward to following your continuing progress.

Wow, I am sorry to hear about that. It sounded like the day started off so well too. I can totally understand your concern. I don't think taking off for a week will decrease you fitness one bit. In fact, once you recover you will be fresh and ready to go. My prayers go out to you. Get well soon. I hope you can continue participating on the forum while you recuperate. I enjoy your posts.

You had awesome workouts on Saturday! Your doing well with your pull-ups. I like your drive and determination! Your upper body strength is really improving.

RJ, this is really sounding bad! Maybe you should go visit your doctor if the pain doesn't subside tomorrow!

Re:Gun Club 4/13 start 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 8
Ok, its accountability time...

I didn't post over the weekend. It got kind of busy for me. On Saturday I had a 5k race in the morning then I had to coach my son's football team in the afternoon. Then, of course, Sunday was mother's day and I just wanted to enjoy family time with my wife.

Saturday
Run: 5k race. My very first organized running event ever (if you don't count my military years about 100 years ago). I posted photos and a race report here... http://www.projectexercise.com/Blog/post/2009/05/09/Jamba-Juice-Banana-Man-5k-My-First-Run-Event-Ever!.aspx

Sunday
After my wife and son fell asleep I headed to my office (aka the workout room) and did chest, shoulders, triceps, ARX. I love those airborne plyo clap push-ups. I can keep up with Tony now! Prior to starting ARX, I pre-exhausted my abs with weighted crunches so I got a pretty awesome ab workout.

Monday
Run: 7k (4.2 miles). I ran along the beach during my lunch break. It was very hot today, but I have to train in the heat because it will be hot on the day I run the triathlon. I have less than 4 weeks to go.

Well, I didn't go running on Sunday as planned but did do X Stretch. Monday was my first CST since switching over to Classic for Phase II. And do I ever need some upper body work! Sheesh! Just got done with my first Plyo and I believe I have purged ever last drop of sweat from my body!

Diet went to **** over the weekend and will be back being a good boy for the rest of week 5.

Hey, now that I have seen CST I now know what Airborne pushups are. Can't do them, but I have something to shoot for.

Thanks Boomer! I started my second round yesterday & really pushed myself. I'm actually sore for the first time in a while. I'm back on Phase 1 eating as well, hopefully I can really stick with it. Sugar & carbs are my weakness!!
Time for Plyo...

Great job, everyone! Keep it up!
Boomer, thanks so much for your concern and kind words. The pain is easing considerably and I expect to be back to form no later than next Monday. Hubby and I are planning on taking a 5 mile hike on Saturday morning so I need to try and get on the treadmill and at leat walk a little bit this week. Besides telling my head that my body needs to rest, the hard part has been scaling back on my food intake. I can't eat the amount of food that I'm used to, so instead of 1,800-2,000 cals, I'm trying to stay in the 1,200-1,500 range. Hunger pains! I told my husband that as soon as I can, I'm getting back in the game. I am too close to my goal and have worked too damn hard to just throw it all away. Besides, this has become habit now and I really, really miss it.

RJ remember to alternate hot and cold on it to increase blood flow for repair.

Jess You are going straight into another round?!? I'm impressed!

Boomer If you can keep up with Tony on the airborne pushup, shouldn't a little triathlon be a stroll in the park? Also congrats of your first race!

david...yep, I didn't get to workout Saturday, it was a CRAZY day & I think I must've sweat off about 20 pounds, it was SOOO incredibly humid outside. I took Sunday as a rest day as well. I started back up with my second round yesterday. I'm really pushing myself, I only have 1 month til my wedding. I wanna look good in Vegas!

Hey, I found something that helps me and maybe it'll help you. I did ARX BEFORE B&B today and it went easy! I must be too worn out after an hour of another routine to do ARX, cuz I can only do it hours later. But before, it works for me.

Re:Gun Club 4/13 start 10 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 7
Injury update and a compliment:
I felt pretty good yesterday, didn't take any ibuprofen, and was thinking about easing back into a workout by getting on the treadmill tonight. I didn't lay on my heating pad last night because I felt very little pain, and I am paying for it today. I am back to being stiff and sore. Not as bad as it was on Sunday or Monday, but bad enough to derail my running plan. So...a few more days is needed. I've not gained any weight though, so I guess I'm doing something right nutrition-wise.
Now, onto the compliment. A fellow paralegal is a gym rat running buddy of mine and we hadn't seen each other in several months. I saw her last night at a continuing ed class, and she just poured out the compliments. "You look amazing! P90X is agreeing with you! Your skin is clearer, you're glowing! P90X definitely is working for you!" That is just what I needed to hear while I am feeling sorry for myself about this darn injury. I know I'm working hard and getting results, it's just really refreshing to have a 3rd party confirm what you feel. Have a great day, gunners!

Just something to keep in mind about doing ARX before your workout. I read an article somewhere that said they recommend doing ARX after your workout. It stated that your core will get fatigued and your chance of injury increases during your lifting workout. I don't know, just keep that in mind and keep bringing it!

I wish I could run (they frown upon running & jumping after a joint replacement) I'm jealous!
Since I've started my second round, I'm trying really hard to stick to phase 1 eating & it's paying off! (so far). I've lost 2 pounds since Monday
