Calling all newbies ( Starting 1st Jan 09) 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi guys and gals...i must say that is forum has been really instrumental in making me feel the need to wake up and change my life.
Currently 31 years old and wanting to lose a few pounds...40 actually.
I have seen a sample of the workout requirements for the P90x and i must say that the work outs are tough. I plan to use the next 3 weeks to start to recondition my body befor actually starting on the program.
Just wanting to round up those who have yet to start and make a pact so that we can share the trials and motivate each other as we go through the life changing challenge. I know that there are other threads here with the same content. Just looking for some buddies who have yet to start and looking for the push as well.... <<_>>

Cheers to all and continue with your efforts in reaching your goals and dreams!

Hey, I'm right there with you. I'm need to change my life. I'm all for making a pact, anything to keep your motivation and my motivation up

I'm 21 and my long-term weight loss goal is about 60 pounds. I want to get down to 150. I'll be using the next three weeks to start cutting out foods that I don't need to be eating and increasing my exercise.

January 1 will be here before we know it!

Welcome P90X n00bs

I've been doing the P90X for the last 29 days, and let me tell you, once you hit your second week, the motivation to keep going will be there with you all the way.

The hardest part of P90X is making it through the first week. I started it on Veterans Day weekend (November 9th), and the week before I had done a few things to get me in the groove of things - a few pushups every other day, stopped drinking diet coke, had a few beers through the week knowing that I'd be really cutting down on that, and just preparing my mind for the mental state I'd need to be in.

I didn't do the fitness test for it, because I know I would have failed miserably. I started my weight at 245 lbs, after dropping 50 lbs from January til then just by changing what I ate. I also went in a little blind sighted believing that I would have a ripped and toned body by the end of the 90 days, but I don't entirely see that happening now - mainly because I started off at such a high weight than what most people start this program off as.

Now, I've lost 22 lbs since I've started, after my first month. I think I might have taken some of the wrong intake foods over this weekend (went to pork sausage patties over my veggie sausage patties), so I'll be back on those tomorrow morning for my breakfast. The diet is one of the biggest keys to this workout, stick to it as closely as possible, and don't be afraid to call it quits during the workouts if you can't endure it. My first week was the worst in terms of doing the exercises, and now it's started all over again because of the rest week

Good luck guys, and you better stick to it!

This program will give back what you put into it. I am 35 with a wife two kids and not alot of extra time. Dedication is the key. You have to make it happen. Keep pressing play, give it your all and results will follow. Week one is the hardest. You will be very sore and you must work through it. The pain will go away.

I bought it for my husband for Christmas (he's been wanting it for 2 or 4 years) and I'm going to do it with him. I'll either start on January 1 or January 5 (I like to start routines on a Monday). We're both 34, and while he has fallen off the weight loss wagon, I've been kind of running alongside it. I can't speak for him and his goal, but I only have to lose 18 lbs to get to my goal of 145 or a size 6, whichever comes first. I'm really looking forward to doing this and sticking with it. I may actually be in a bikini by summer! (never worn one...stretchmarks might prevent it now, but I can hope, right?)

I am in, I'm 16 years young almost 6'2 and 225 lbs. I am not sure in what goals I want and what I'm going to aim for, I'm just going to follow the p90x workouts and nutrition and look at the outcome after 90 days. I am curious to what I should do in the meantime to prepare for the challenge? Another question I have is if I were to double the workout everyday would I see results quicker?

Good luck everyone!

P90XGladiator - doing double the routines is a good way to burn yourself out and cause injuries to your muscles - so you would actually see no results from that (unless you're absolutely crazy and are already in great shape, of course). If you meant by doing the doubles (Cardio + workouts), you'd lose weight much quicker, thus seeing results in various ways - weight loss, muscles toning up, etc. Of course, it also depends on your eating habits and if you're following a planned nutrition or not. I'd suggest start off doing the classic, and if you can still muster the energy to do the cardio's after, then go for it

RunningJunkie - those are some good goals! As for the stretch marks, every overweight person has them, and everyone who has them and works out, will lose them. When a woman becomes pregnant and during the birth cycle, they get stretch marks (except for the fortunate few), but after time and their body heals and their skin tightens back up, they do lose them. It's all about toning your skin and making it tight. Hope that helps a little bit! Good luck to you and your husband, and good luck P90XGladiator!

It's a fun journey, and a completely new way of life, if you ask me

Ark, I have had the dreaded stretchmarks since I had my kids, who are now 13 and 15. I've noticed that they have faded over the years, which is great. I'm curious to see how they look at the conclusion of P90x. I've been working out for about 3 years now, but I tend to fall off the wagon too easily. I'm in the gym 3-4 mornings a week or doing a video at home if hubby is just too snuggly... I've done TaeBo (which I LOVE) and most recently I've done the Jillian Michaels circuits which have finally given me some definition in my arms. I'm really excited to get started on this and finally get that bitchin' bod I've been dying for.

Re:Calling all newbies ( Starting 1st Jan 09) 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 6
I am in my last week of my first round of P90X, and I have to be honest and say the stretch marks are still there, they are smaller, less noticeable etc. but they do NOT go away totally (2 kids 13 + 11). I have very pale, thin skin, and that's just the way it is for me (I am 46).

As for a weight loss goal, I started at 140, and my goal was to get into the low 130's. I was a size 8, now I am a 4-6, but I did not reach my weight loss goal. In fact, I'm now 146, so DO NOT spend time worrying about the scale. I have dropped fat and am much smaller now, but I've packed on muscle. I'm not saying you won't lose any weight, everyone is different, I was just close enough to my goal that it didn't work out that way for me. Focus on your size in clothes, this will tell you more accurately how you are doing.

This program is great, it forces you (if you let it) to be honest and not cheat and get lazy and avoid working out, and you are close enough to your size/weight goal that you will get GREAT results in just one round. I want to increase my strength and be able to pump out pullups, right now I can do 1 chinup unassisted (as of yesterday!)

This board is also great, I have my own log, it really helps me stick with the program.

After years of TaeBo, I know all too well the benefit of staying away from the scale. That is definitely one thing that is preached in that school of thought. If I can get my butt out of a size 8 and into at least a 6 if not a 4 by July 4, I'll be thrilled. I'd much rather be a fit and healthy 155 or 160 than a scrawny and sickly 140 or 145.
The good thing about me is that since I've been at this for a few years, I know what I'm getting into and the "tricks" so to speak. I know what to do and what not to do, how to listen to my body, etc. P90x I think is going to take me to the next level and give my butt the good kicking that it needs.

Hi. I'm in.

I am 36 and from UK but based in Malaysia. I have never really exercised but am not over weight (much). I am about 5'9" and about 175lbs I guess.

What I am is really unfit. (many years of drinking and smoking). Mildly strenuous activity leaves me crippled for days LOL, but at least I have stopped smoking now.

I have been dabbling with some of the routines in p90x for a couple of weeks and feel surprisingly keen to get going. Hopefully, with the help of other forummers here, I can keep this going for the 90 days. I'm not sure if Jan 1st or 5th will be my start date yet.

Bring it..!!!

OK guys, I have been lazy enough. Hold me accountable. I need the support. I am 36 and tired of thinking my drier is constantly shrinking my pants, and that wearing a 2x makes me feel comfortable. I was 243, but now, even through the hollidays, I am at 223. My goal is 185. I am 6' tall and have a burning desire to get back into it. I went to military school and ran cross country and everything. But now I get sick when I look in the mirror.

Count me in!!!

01-01-09 Here we go.

I am 6-4, 265 lbs & 35 y/o. I joined Weight Watchers 11 months ago at 303 lbs, and have lost about 40 lbs so far, but my weight loss has plateaued with out exercise. My goal is to lose another 30-40 lbs and get in shape (have not been to the gym in several years). My P90X should be here any day. I also got the pull up bar and am going out to get my exercise bands this weekend. This sounds like it is going to be very hard, but I am looking forward to the challenge!

OK, post #1

I just ordered my DVD's expect them to arrive next week. I'll officially start on the 5th, but will be trying workouts and picking up gear in the meantime.

I'm the old man here, 46. After a 15 year layoff from any real meaningful activity, I've worked off 70 lbs via medifast, began 8/1, and am now ready do something to add back muscle mass I've lost over the years.

So I'm with you all, and hope I can keep up my running, I'm aiming for a 1/2 marathon in April...

Dan in Dallas...
