8/30/08 - big sale on bowflex selecttech 3 Months ago Karma: 0
hey all. i'm going to be starting the p90x program in about a week or so (once everything comes in the mail) but i was reading the forum and saw bigfoot made a post about getting the bowflex selecttech dumbbells at sports authority for cheap. so i called my local sports authority, heard the price and ran on down there.

i know these are useful for this program so i figured i'd make a thread to let you all know to check it out.

the sale started today 8/30/08 at my sports authority (in new york). it's the bowflex selecttech 552 dumbbells. they are adjustable up to 52.5 lbs each. and here's the kicker, the stand was FREE.

so the entire thing cost me $350.00 + tax for the dumbbells AND the stand. great deal.

so i would rush out now before the sale is over. oh, one more thing, there's a 90 day return policy too.

sweet deal

when the time comes (middle of phase 2)you'll only need to get a few bigger weight to compliment your bowflex and still have all the space free.
are the bowflex expendable?

they go from 5 lbs to 52.5 lbs but I think you can buy larger plates if you need.

the excersize dvd that came with it is extremely thoughough. Full of great moves and taught with safety and correct form as number one. It shows all of the common mistakes everyone makes and how to do things right.

sorry man. check back and see if they expanded their sale. since it's a 90 day return, i'm guessing that if they do start selling for a better price within those 90 days, you can bring in your receipt and they'll give you the better offer.

Think Im gonna run out and grab this deal today. Im a little hesitant to spend the $350, but its something I can use for many different applications. (trying to justify it to myself lol)

just finished biulding the free stand. Its pretty heavy gauge steel. An open wrench with a closed ratchet end I feel is the best tool to use in putting it together.
P.S. I got my p90x vids in the mail today. man, its really intimidating. Lots of stuff to readv and write down. I start tomorrow!

...ended up deciding on the powerblocks I read a few reviews about the Bowflex that sort of spooked me, and I dont like how wide they are. Personal choice I guess...I just think the heavier powerblocks will suit me better.

powerblocks was my first choice until I saw the ironmaster QLDB (more expensive than the rest).
I was at a sport store playing around with bowflex and one of the plate fell off

the bowflex weights are directional. peopleplay with the weights and put them back on the base facing the wrong way. then whentheweight apparatus is placed back onto the base. The wieght isnt locked into place. That is what you experienced.

a consensus? yeah right

I vote for the ironmaster quick lock dumbbell because if you need to drop it you can.
it all iron so it's unbreakable
you can fit the weight on any bar

it's not quick to change weight so if you select the wrong weight you can't just dial or move the pin to the desired weight.
