TOPIC: P90X Question
P90X Question 2 years, 8 months ago #18977
|
My friends and I are all working out this summer, but we are all doing different things. One of my friends told me that P90X is only for overweight people and it wouldn't work for me meaning I would not gain muscle or get "ripped." I am currently 127 pounds, 5 feet 8 inches and 17 years old. Is what he told me true or will P90x help me? Thanks.

Not at all, in fact, the people you see shown around of the really amazing result, most likely weren't fat to begin with. Tony and the "p90x test group grads" who do the workouts on screen, and sweat like hell, they all certainly haven't been fat at any point in their lives.
I think it's just used by a lot of people looking to lose some serious weight because they know that it really works you, and sheds pounds better than anything else out there. The only think you'd have to worry about, is losing too much weight. You'll want to eat A LOT during this, to keep your weight up. |

I seem to hear that phrase used a lot..."lose too much weight." I really don't understand the concept of it.
If you are 5'8 and 127, you are most likely a bean pole. Doing the program would make you GAIN weight just by increasing your muscle mass. You may not "look" any heavier, but you will gain weight in lean muscle. In all honesty, this is more a program for skinny people than it is for heavy people. Its just most people who are already in shape, generally don't want to fork over $120 just to gain a few muscles. They believe what they are doing is working and just go with it. Overweight people finally see that what they are doing ISN'T working, so they put forth the cash to make the lifestyle change. P90X doesn't do anything for you that a lot of other programs don't. Its just how it goes about getting you to do it. Sure you could probably mix some weight lifting, some taebo, some yoga, some pilates, and some stretching and get the same results as P90X. However, its the fact that everything is laid out in front of you and there is no "choice" to be made. There is no "should I do this today? or should I do that..." which tends to lead to doing nothing at all except turning on the TV to watch CSI or Family Guy. That is why it is so successful, is it keeps you motivated and keeps you wanting more. Then you finally realize you are a beast and ripped and its engraved in your lifestyle. |

So what should I do with the nutrition plan? Should I follow it?

i would follow it in terms of what you should eat and stuff. but since you're 127 pounds, i'm assuming you'd fall into level 1. so to gain some mass, i would follow the plan for level 2 instead.
