Hey there everyone!! This is my first post here . Anyways, I love the P90X program. I love the fact that its different and yet so simplistic. I also really respond well to Tony's postive energy. I have completed 6 weeks of the program so far and hope I can continue with it...I say HOPE because I know that I am overtraining. I don't just have that "achy soreness" after a really good workout, it's more like pain that could lead to an injury. In addition to P90X I teach and train in the martial arts (6 days a wk anywhere from 4-8 hrs depending on the day) on top of attending college in the morning. My days are non-stop and when I finally do get home around tenish, I would do P90X until at least eleven. I am 22 years old, 5'9" and 165 lbs. My ultimate goal is to lose 20 lbs and become over all toned (especially in my arms and abs). I decided to do P90X because I truely believe it can get me there. Yes, I work out all the time through MA but after 13 years of training, my body has become used to it and therefore I can't accomplish my goals. I stopped using P90X five days ago and it's driving me insane that I can't do it right now. It's extrememly frustrating ..my mind wants to do this but my body doesn't want to comply. After training in the martial arts so long I am very atuned to what my body can handle. I can't risk injury because then I couldn't do my job as a karate instructor...on the other hand I am miserable with my body and the fact that I finally found something that was working, but its just too much for me to handle. Just need some advice..anything would be much appreciated

bb,

Wow, you're really getting after it!! Remember that you're only human...you may be pushing your body harder than it can go.

Here's some suggestions (I teach martial arts as well so I know where you're coming from)...
Give Kenpo-X the boot. You're getting plenty of a Kenpo-style workout already. I'd consider another day of Yoga personally, so you get extra stretching at the end of the day.

Go lighter on your weight days, with more reps. You'll burn more fat that way, and the lowered resistance will lessen the chance for injury. Believe it or not, you probably don't need to go for the burn in each exercise. I would push it on any exercise using bodyweight as the primary resistance (push ups, chin ups, pull ups, squats, etc) as they utilize functional strength.

Bands!! They'll help by engaging additional muscle groups and the lighter resistance for many exercises will decrease injury risk.

You've already discovered that it will take more time for you as you're in the elite category. Don't worry...the change is still happening!

Hope this helps,

Kevin
