TOPIC: Oops...first injury.

I was doing pull ups on Friday and noticed some pain radiating from my right tricep through to my right back shoulder blade (almost running through my armpit). Slowed me down a bit during the exercises but seems to have subsided over the weekend. Now today, I did chest and back and within the first couple pull ups I again feel a decent amount of pain in the same area and quite literally had to stop doing pull ups. No issue with any other exercise, just w pullups.
I'm not sure what this is (latissimus dorsi??) or if I should lay off doing pull ups for some time. I will definitely ice it down and I believe I have another couple days before the next set of pull ups are required but don't want to over do it. Thoughts? |

I had a similar injury last year. The problem is I kept on pushing and now even today it still hurts. I did another round of p90x recently and I used bands exclusively for the pullups.
Please don't keep pushing hard with this injury. Modify/back-off of the pullups until you heal. I don't think you should stop, but put a hook in the wall and buy some light bands. I have worked my way up to 45 pounds on the bands, which I still don't think is that much weight. Also, I found that the X-Stretch is vital to protecting against injury. I did not do X-Stretch the first time around and I paid for it. Do not skip the stretching workout (day 7)! Just be careful. Maybe see a doctor if it keeps hurting. |
