Got all the goods I need and hijacked my former dining room that will now be used as my workout room. Passed the fitness test (pullups TOUGH!). So I guess my questions are...are there any "older" types out there (I'm 49) doing this and what advice do you have. A second question is about pull-ups. Should I do what I can then go to chair assisted to finish, or, go to the bands? I officially begin 10/1. Thanks in advance, this should be....fun?

Well the guy that instructs the video is 45 during the time the video was made I believe. Either 45 or 46, so it is definitely possible. And my personally I don't like the bands so I do what I can with pull ups then do them assisted. Getting a little better each week.

Dan,

Welcome to the forums!!

I'm 48 and loving it. To follow up on Coy's comment, Tony Horton just released the more advanced form of P90X, known as P90X Plus. And he just celebrated his 50th birthday!

Come on in!!

If you can do 3 unassisted pullups then do at least that many - then switch to assisted for as many as you can do.

But if you can't even do 2 pullups or barely can do 2 then just stick with assisted ntil you build up some strength. But doing pullups unassisted build the muscle much faster since it is such an intense workout. when I started this program I could barely do a sinlge pullup - and that was using all the possible strentgh I could muster. Now I can do around 10 - I still think that is not enough so I keep pushing it now with p90x+ to try and build that up so I can hit 20 sometime soon!

I agree. I love pull ups...I was never very good with them when I was younger and so an inclusion of pull ups and chin ups is very nice.

I'm looking forward to my first unassisted pull up in the very near future. Then it's 2,3,5,10, and the sky's the limit!!

P90X is all about taking you from where you are to beyond where you dreamed you could go. Though the market strategy is "Get Ripped in 90 Days", I think an even better strategy, especially for those of us who have exercised diligently for years without seeing the kind of results we want, is "The Vehicle To Reach Your Goals". This is a long-term commitment, a lifestyle change, and I didn't see the kind of results that many of the other members of the forum have seen in 90 days. But I'm better. And, in another 90 days, I'll be even better than I am now.

I'm using the program to get in shape for a knee replacement in January. I'm doing the program right up to the day before surgery. As soon as I can, I'm back to P90X...yes, it'll be at a lower level than I am now. But I can get back to where I am now more quickly than if I quit. And I'll have a pain-free knee to use!

Be your best...that's the plan!!

I agree with Kevin,

Screw the 90 days!!! This is a lifetime committment to living lng and healthy. I fisished 90 days but was not ripped nor did I have a 6-pack. But I was in the best shape of my life (at 35) and the 90 process set my body up perfectly to start continuing with workouts and improving my body. I am 120 days into it now - still no 6pack but everything just keeps getting better so I can't complain! I can't wait to hit 365 days!!! Results are obvioulsy faster for thoses guys in the 20's versus later.
