I just ordered the program and I hope I am not getting into another HYPE fad thing...I have read all your postings and have seen the infomercial a million times and I think that this is the program for me...

I was a fire fighter and was injured about 5 yrs ago...I was unable to workout or condition for quite sometime...Then I just got lazy...but thats a story for another day...I have been using a personal trainer for 6 months and have dropped 40 lbs! but I have hit that ever present plateau. I think this program will do it for me...


My question is this...I am in fairly good shape and will have no problem with the fit test...I am trying to figure out the weight range my dumbbells should be...I dont want to spend $500 on a set, I found a set or pairs from 5lbs to 25lbs...do you think this will be sufficient, or do I need to get more weight?


I know it depends on my condition...I just need a little guidance...

Hello and welcome - I believe you said it right, it depends on your condition.

5 lbs to 25 lbs is too light. You need dumbbells for biceps curls, shoulder presses, triceps extensions and other various exercises.
Minimum you would need 10lbs or 12lbs. You would prob want to get a set of 20's and 30's as well.

5 to 25lbs is not enough.

if you can get 10-100lbs go for it.It won't take you long at all to get back to bigger weight. I say get back because you must be pushing big weight after 6 mos of training, so it just a matter of you getting comfortable with the P90x routines.

look into adjustable dumbbells.
if you need help spending your money come back, we've got suggestions and opinions.

I have been using the reebok 5-25# adjustable weights and they are a bit on the light side, especially during back exercises. On many of the sets, I am pushing 20+ reps to 'feel the burn'. At the beginning, they were sufficient, but by about 30-45 days, you will blow through them. I am fine with the light weight/extra rep thing as I am trying more to lose weight, than build bulk. So it all depends.

The most important thing is to start, just do it.. If you only have $100 for a pair of dumbbells, then they are a good start. Then save up and pick up a set of 35's and maybe 45's to supplement.
