well...started my 2nd week and decided i was gonna buy some pushup stands to go deeper but theres a catch...the first week i did the push ups free handed (ruglar with no knees) but coud only do maybe 3-5 regular....so i decided i was gonna do the next three weeks on my knees but buy the bars to go as deep as possible....well today was the start of my 2nd week and i did all the pushups today on my knees but with the pushup bars so i went as far down as possible but i was maxing out at around 10....im wondering if i do this for the first phase and up my reps each week on my knees and then come phase 2 switch to regular pushups....is there a problem with this?..im somewhat of a bigger guy..not fat but bulky and have a big upper body...so its kinda hard pushin it up still while using my knees lol..any advice is helpful my p90x friends lol

if you are feeling your muscles working then its fine.

i would try to do as many regular then drop to your knees. even if you do one, you'll find yourself improving every week.

Brandon- your plan sounds fine. when i started my first round, i could BARELY do 3 real pushups. so i did them ALL on my knees. by phase 2, i was doing them all off my knees (i would drop to my knees to pound out a couple more). so you'll find you'll build quickly. just make sure you're working hard!

good luck.

I just started week 3, chest and back yesterday. I started out week 1 with being able to do about 15-20 standard pushups and literally running out of steam after that. Military pushups, I was on my knees(10), wide set came easy to me(12), decline I had 6, diamond was on my knees(8) and dive bombers I could do 3. Then came round 2 where I was on my knees the entire time.

Last night I cranked out 20 reg, 12 military, 20 wide set, 12 decline, 10 diamond and 6 dive bombers. Round 2 my goal was to do atleast half of each set before going to my knees. The only 2 I dropped to my knees on were diamonds and military and thats only after doing 6-8 regular reps of each.

For me dive bombers are the worst. Probably due to a lack of shoulder strength but I would do as many as you can before dropping to your knees. Also concentrate on using your chest muscles to push yourself back up. That way you don't over work your tri's.
