I'm new too. I have ordered the program, but it hasn't arrived yet. I hate it when people are so negative about trying new things - but I agree with the other poster who stated that it really just has more to do with them than you. I think when people say "you can't do that or you won't finish that" - what they REALLY mean is "I couldn't do that and I wouldn't finish that". They are internalizing it (because of their own self-esteem issues) and projecting it at you. So really - nothing to be upset about.

If I may - I'd like to suggest that you use a recovery drink after your workouts. I've heard it really helps. I'm not a trainer of any sort, but as I was researching, I've read enough to convince me to get some for when I start! Beachbody sells a P90X recovery drink which I hear tastes pretty good, but there are others on the market. I ordered one called Endurox R4 which is pretty much the same thing minus the creatine - which I can live without for the price difference! Anyway, this might help you through some rough patches where you're feeling sore and weak. I think you can buy smaller containers of Endurox to give it a try (just don't buy the fruit punch flavor, I've heard it tastes like vomit..).

I'm sure you can finish. Find some sort of motivation and when you find it - SHARE We can motivate each other when mine arrives. I know I'll be needing it too hehe.
Good luck!

Hi and welcome! I especially like the advise from 'thwack', but truly EVERYONE in here has given you great advise.
Really the only thing I might add is to check into this forum everyday. I am very inspired and motivated by reading many posts, old and new. Get involved in the forum. You get back what you give 100 fold. This is a very friendly community. People are so kind and helpful.

Remind yourself that this program is for YOU not your friends and family. I had many friends who thought I was nuts for doing this program ( I am 53 and have MS), but I stuck to it. It has not only changed my appearance but it has really helped my MS 'flairs', my balance and well, just about everything. I am off my meds for now and am THRILLED! Now those same friends are amazed at what I accomplished.

You never have to be alone. Come here whenever your feeling pressured by family/friends....we will BRING YOU BACK!! You can do it! Hugs~Kate

I have actually had an opposite experience. I am really surprised at how many people around me are doing P90X or have tried it in the past. So know that you are not alone - many, many people of all different kinds, jobs, ages, etc. are trying P90X - just like you!

As for the negative people around you, I think you should read a book called Boundaries by Henry Cloud. The basic message of the book (that I got out of it) was that you are responsible for your stuff, other people are responsible for their stuff, and if people try to put their stuff on you, then you basically tell them to butt out (in a nice way!)

Keep pressing play!

The best thing that I can say to you is: P90X is about the mind not the body.
Your body will tire, but it will naturally recover from one day to another. But your mind can't heal itself. So you have to focus all your energy and keep your mind right to these things.

Nutrition: The diet part, IS the fuel of the program, the workout are just what accelerates is. Without fuel, your acceleration is useless, you wopn't go anywhere. Eat right, skip junk food, candies, soda and all that thing that you know that is unhealthy. Don't get a "small bite of it" skip it. Doing this for 90 days. Is much harder than doing the entire DVD set in one day.

Discipline: How bad do you want to change your body? How hard are you willing to go for it? What you will restrict your self to get what you want? This questions is what i pose to me everyday so I can remind myself why I am doing this and why I won't stop.

Expectations: Don't go overboard on expectations, P90X is not magical. If you did any kind of intense exercise for 90 days eating healthy, you would get a lot fitter. But P90X ins organized and easy to do, thanks to the work that Tony put into it. Now you don't have to get up and go sprinting, just push play and do what they're doing.

Body Change: Each Phase is made to get a differente kind of response from your body. A lot of people quit bearly ecause they're not seeing abs magically showing up. But it doesn't work like this. Phase 1 is about adaptation, you will get some difference in measures, but your body won't change that much. Phase 2 is about burning all the fat you had, this is the time to perfect the discipline you've been building. Phase 3, you will get a lot more muscular and because of that get a faster metabolism and lose even more fat.

Keep this things in mind, do your best everyday no matter WHAT is your best. If It's just 1 push up, great. Aim to do 2 next time.

Good luck!

I'm sure everyone had that moment when they said enough is enough I have to change. For me it was going to a wedding over a weekend and gaining 2 pounds in 3 days from drinking way too much and eating waaayyy too much.

I made a decision at that moment to never do that again and to get healthy. Honestly I hadn't felt healthy for ~ 2 years but wasn't working on it because I was not overweight just out of shape and had high cholesterol. I'm 41 and fixing it is harder, the older you get.

I decided to start P90X after researching it for ~ 2 weeks. So check I had the desire to change.

Next is committing, forget about what anyone else says, keep your committment to yourself. My wife has been my biggest naysayer, telling me to not do it, just do lighter exercise and eat better. I havn't listened to her. I made a committment to myself to not miss a workout, NO MATTER WHAT. This means, I've had company twice during my P90X journey (I'm in week 10 currently). I told my company, entertain themselves I'm going to my workout room to do P90X for 1.5 hours. They swam in my pool, I sweated. I had to travel out of town for a day, I got up at 4:30am to do plyo (sucks btw). Tto date I have finished every workout and not skipped any.

If you have the desire and the committment you will succeed. My body fat has dropped 8%, I've lost over 2 inches on my waist and I feel better than I have in probably 10 years. The wife is even happy with the results.

You have to make an agreement with yourself and don't listen to anyone else. You are doing it for you, no one else. If you can do that you will be fine.
