Im 18 years of age
-155 lbs -5'10 -In shape, played football all highschool (im a senior) -Decent strength (Bench 225, Deadlift 375, Squat 350) Im looking to increase my strength, but mainly increase my mass and shed some body fat to have a nice ripped boddy. Is P90x mainly a weight loss program? Can i use it to gain weight and mass? Is the nutrition plan just for weight loss? Should i stay away from this and look into something different? I have a decent body but im not nearly happy with it. All post are greatly appreciated! |

P90X can be used to lose wt and cut or gain mass and cut. All depends on how many reps and what weight you use during the workouts. The nutrition plan is mainly for weight loss by showing you the correct foods you should eat and it contains a lot of recipies for low fat/fat free foods. When i use to lift weights to bulk up(was benching 390), i ate as much as i could shove in my face, but it wasnt junk food. I ate good food but i had a caloric intake of around 3500-4000/day. On another note, i was pretty much same stats as you when i was in HS other than weight, i weighed 180. I used to always lift heavy just wanting to bulk up until i hurt my shoulder playing football. 2x surgerys later, i look back and it is not really worth it. BTW im 21 years old..

The big problem will be the time commitment. You'll need 60-90 minutes per day. If you're off season you probably will have the time. During the season, you'll be pretty stretched.
If you're currently playing, I'd have no reservations about your ability to do the program. But be prepared to be surprised! I played football all through high school and was bench pressing and leg pressing the world at the time. P90X won't dramatically increase your max lifts, but you will be pleasantly surprised at your level of fitness at the end of the program. And you will get stronger! You're already pretty ripped, so I'd say go for it!! Kevin |

I consider P90X to be mostly a leaning out kind of regimine. Don't get me wrong, you will get bigger. My arms, back, shoulders, legs...everything has grown. But I have also leaned out quite a bit.
But Tony says "8-10 to build mass, 12-15 to get lean." You look pretty lean. I would say do P90X and pick a weight (heavy) that you are stuggling to pull reps 6, 7, 8 or 8, 9, 10. If you are doing more than 10 reps, you probably picked too light of a weight. That does NOT mean to only do 10 reps no matter what. If you can crank out 10 reps with no problem and you dont have a heavier weight, do enough reps until you are struggling on the last 3. You may have to invest in some iron. but you'll be thankful you did. Oh. And eat a lot (follow the diet.) It's hard to get bigger if you don't have anything to build with. |

Repbyrep....you will definitely benefit from P90X. The IDEAL candidate for P90X is someone who already has some underlying muscle and is intent on shedding the fat surrounding it (little or lots) while gaining strength. By the looks of it you are a prime candidate.
