TOPIC: I'm a P90X failure =[

Re:I'm a P90X failure =[ 2 years, 4 months ago #31190

Thanks for the replies! Unfortunately I have never been a sporty one. I would like to get into something like MMA(mixed martial arts) or even American football but living in the UK sucks sports wise. If i were to join a football(soccer) or rugby team it would only be once a week for 1 term a year, really not good. It would only be basic training in that sport as well, thats what you get for having small uk schools.

I'm 16 in a few days and correct me if i'm wrong but isn't 16 the best time to get into fitness as hopefully when i leave education in a few years I would hope to join a gym and build more bulk.

First of all you are not a failure. The fact you even tried P90X tells me you are trying. That is all anyone can ask for.

I found this site & it may help. This guys provides good insight & he addresses young people like yorself. I have no connection to the site. I would stay in the free area. He is also on You Tube & has podcasts floating around. Check out his videos & his podcasts. I think you can learn alot from him.

Happy 16th Birthday (in advance). Some day you'll look back on this point in your life smile & just shake your head.

I am only 2.5 weeks into P90x so I will not try to address the specifics of this workout. However, I have been lifting weights and exercising regularly since I was your age (I'm 39 now). I was a large Endomorph. Now is the best possible time for you to start working out! Make good use of all those extra hormones you have right now. They'll only help you. I would suggest using the DVD's as guides to learning how to do all of those exercises using the best possible form for each and every one. Take your time. Don't kill yourself, enjoy yourself! When I began, my lifting bible was the Arnold Schwarzenegger Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding. Great book and I learned a ton. Ease yourself into it. Before you know it you'll be wanting to kick butt and take names (as it relates to the workout)!!!

Good luck!

You guys have made me decide to do it again! and this time complete it!

I will eat more healthy than normal, and keep to the plan in the sense of if a meal in the plan is high in protein I will have a meal high in protein and so on..

I will be starting the 7th but start eating healthy on the first as long as doing the p90x workouts but I will take them laid back and not pushing myself, I just want to practice getting the correct form and such =]

Thanks!

Mitchell, if P90X is something that you want to do, then do it. Your body is still growing, but you don't want it to grow the wrong way. You need some sort of exercise, and if P90X is your thing, then do it. If playing football or basketball is your thing, then do that instead. It's been debated a lot, but I think P90X is still a good program for teenagers. Waiting until 17-18 years old to lift weights is ridiculous. Middle schoolers lift weights... Look at Freshmen football teams; they lift weights all the time!

Just do your best, and forget the rest. If you can only do push ups on your knees, then do that until you can do them on your feet. I've finished P90X & I still do pull-ups with the chair... Modify what you need to, but push yourself to improve with every workout by either doing more reps, or increasing the weight.

Good luck dude!

Mitchell, I am in the 3rd week of Phase 2, and I think I know exactly how you felt when doing the workouts in the afternoons. When I started I was 303lbs at 5'11" (actually I don't know what I weighed, I didn't weigh myself until middle of the 3rd week, I just didn't want to know), and very out of shape (not just weight wise, but walking up the stairs would make me breathe hard). I thought I would do something else to get ready for P90X, but after 6 months of not doing anything to prepare for P90X, I decided to start. My plan was to do what I could do, and every workout try to improve. The first workout I did (chest and back), I did a little over half the workout. Plyo kicked my butt the next day, etc... But every week, I have seen improvement in my numbers, and the way I feel.

I have just a couple of suggestions that you might try. First, if at all possible, try to do your workout first thing in the morning. This will prevent you from thinking about the workout too much throughout the day, as a lot of times dreading something is much worse than actually doing it. Second, on the days you really don't feel like doing your workout, commit yourself to do half the workout. You will probably find that once you have done half, you want to go ahead and finish the workout, and if not, well, you got half the workout in, and that is a step in the direction you want to go.
