got my P90x today, DVD's missing..and some ?'s 1 Year ago Karma: 0
Well I got home today and my P90x package was waiting for me at the door. I got changed and start opening the package and start looking through the books that came with it. I get done with the last book and look for the DVD's, where are they? There are none!! I call customer support and tell them and they are shipping a set out.

Well this leaves me a bit more time to ask some questions. I plan on starting 3/15 - 3/20, because i am having some minor surgery next week.

I was looking through the book and it seems like I would want to start with Lean to lose a lot of weight and then do classic to build up some strength..

My goal is to lose 75lbs. I need it as you can see from the picture, especially in the stomach and chest area.

I do have a couple questions:
1.) Where is a good place to get a heart rate monitor and bands online? I already have a 20lb band.
2.) Do I have the right idea to start with the lean and then do the classic?

Any other advice for increasing my fat loss? Because right now that is my goal. I plan on cutting the nutrition plan by about 200 cal a day and also doing about 5 extra minutes of cardio every time to help myself along.

Where do you live? Unless it's the desert a heart rate monitor and bands can be purchased lots of places.

If fat loss is your main goal then do the Lean from start to finish.

Curious how you come up with a figure of 200 cal/day and why you think it's necessary to eat less than the plan. Same goes for the extra 5 minutes of cardio. Sounds like you're wanting to do a bit more and eat bit less than perscribed without even having started. My advice would be to stick with the programme for the first 2 weeks and THEN, MAYBE think about modifying things.

Pauly: Per the book, P90X is generally used by those who are already in good shape. If you don't think you're in good shape and desire to lose that much weight, I would probably look into other programs (those that focus on lots of running) first. That just my opinion, but from the research I've done, it's going to be really tough to lose that amount of weight using P90X. Maybe others will have a different opinion?

I agree with stick and Jose,
P90X requires that you be in shape because essentially the exercises are set up like a superset style whereas you'll push and pull on muscles and this requires endurance to see the advertised result, I mean averaging 500 calories burnt per exercise is not exactly a small fit, a 1000 for plyo.

if your goal is to loose weight you can look into p90 to get in shape, once you complete it you can move on to P90X, because P90x is not a "weight lost" program which of course they don't tell you at the risk of loosing a sell.
but if you decide to go with p90x you should follow the lean program for the 90 days and if you have time make it a double. and Do Not skimp on the calories eat all your portion just make sure to keep recalculating in case you go crazy with the program and loose 20 lbs or more in a month.

It's very important to follow the nutrition plan or something very similar. Like Les said, it's not a weight loss program. However, you will lose fat, and depending on your build, weight if you keep up with the program and don't cheat. Everything in the nutrition plan is there to help with either muscle development or energy just to get through the exercises.

I'm going against the grain here. First, I think if your goal is to lose 75lbs, starting with lean might be a good way to go. There are some people on here who went straight to classic and had good results. You might keep in mind that it might take 2-3 times through the program to lose all the weight you want. It only makes sense, at least to me, that it is going to take longer to get in shape if you are really out of shape.

As for the cutting 200 calories a day. Go for it! I cut down from my recommended calorie intake. It isn't hard to cut 200 out of the diet. You can omit the condiments all together. Sure eating items plain isn't great, but it saves you 50 calories. Perhaps you can substitute a double snack for a single instead? That is going to save you 100 calories easy. For a recovery drink, you could have a G2 instead of a regular gatorade? Eat 1/2 of the recommended servings for the fats. It isn't hard to cut out 200 and it really isn't aggressive in terms of cutting out items altogether.

If you notice you don't have a lot of energy, then slowly add back in some of those calories. As you lose weight, your calorie needs are going to drop. Make sure you check your weight weekly and reevaluate your diet and make adjustments according to the calorie calculator.

Good luck!
