TOPIC: Day 1 dissapointment
Day 1 dissapointment 2 years, 7 months ago #25374

I started my day 1 yesterday and I have to say that I'm very dissapointed in how badly I did. I completed the entire workout, including the ab ripper x, but the numbers of pushups and pullups that I'm able to do is pretty sad. I was able to squeak out no more than 6 pullups on any of the exercises, and the most pushups I was able to do was 12. I honestly think my limiting factor on both pushups and pullups was my very weak arms. Is this normal for someone starting out this program? I passed the fit test, so I thought I'd be ready to start.
I'm only 5'2" and I currently weigh 118 lbs, so I'm actually trying to GAIN some muscle weight on p90x. |

Do your best and forget the rest. But if you dont feel like your getting in a good workout just do as many push ups as you can then move to knee pushups. Same with pullups, move to chair pull ups. Over time you will build, everyone starts on different levels so try to match and beat your numbers every week not some one elses.

Don't be dissappionted. I could only do 3 pull ups on day one. I have been doing it almost 2 weeks now and I can say the second week I did 5. As long as you progress just stay with it. Don't worry about the numbers. Stay consistant...

Don't worry about it at all. As long as you maintain good form and do as many as you can, you'll make progress. Are you sore today? If yes, then you're building muscle.

I could not do them when I started. I can not do them now.
Some things take time, but so long as an honest effort is being made it will come. |

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I have to say, I'm more sore today than I was yesterday from the day 1 workout. Oddly, I did the chest and back workout Monday, and my arms are absolutely killing me. This is why I think my arms are the weak link when it comes to the pushups and pullups.
I've never been this sore from a workout though. Not even heavy lifting at the gym. I did all but the last 5 minutes of plyometrics last night before I fast forwarded to the cooldown. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to finish the whole thing next week, but I don't know if my cardiovascular system will be in that good of shape by then. My heartrate stayed in the 160-170 range the entire time I was doing the workout! |
