Hi Everyone!

I'm very excited to say that I ordered my P90X DVDs yesterday and they shipped today!!

I was hoping to get some advice on which program would be best for me - Classic or Lean? Here's some background and what I'm looking to gain.

I'm 33 years old and about 30 pounds over weight. I think I'm in pretty good shape (other than the excess fluff). After the birth of my daughter last year, I started working out again to get rid of the baby weight (which was about 70 pounds). I did Tae Bo, Turbo Jam, and Kickboxing 4-6 days a week with great success, I lost 40 pounds and 24+ inches. However, I feel like I need to kick up my exercise routine for better results. My ultimate goal is to get lean (and maybe cut?), but I worry that the P90X Lean program will be much of the same, mostly cardio. I also have a big problem area – I've got “junk in my trunk”. I think the Plyometrics in the Classic program would help me here, but I also like the sound of Core Synergistics in the Lean program. So, I guess my questions are - Do you think the Lean program is a large enough jump from my regular routine or would Classic be more beneficial? And, which program (or modified program) will help with my “junk” problem?

Sorry, that was long winded. Thanks for your help! I'm so excited to get started!

Hey Wendy! I started last week. I am doing the classic because I want some muscle. I would advise doing the nutrition plan also. They sort of go hand in hand no matter if you choose lean or classic. Good luck on your P90X adventure. Bring it!

I've done Tae bo and I was in martial arts for about 15 years and I can tell you that the classic version in my opinion is a huge jump...at least starting out for someone who hadn't really done anything substantial in many years.

you can't "spot reduce" fat...the only way is through a combo of diet and exercise. Building muscle is a great way to ramp your metabolism up. If you've been or are active...I'd go for the classic version.

Yeah I would go with classic. Remember, with more muscles, you can burn more fat. So even if you have lean slim muscles, it will burn more fat than if you just do cardio all day.

Lean is kind of P90X Lite, as it has been called, so if you want to see the jump, do Classic. In the classic mode, you can do 12-15 reps on the muscle days instead of 6-8 if you want more lean muscles instead of body building. (Ie 12-15 with lower weight, rather than 6-8 with higher weight)

I have a sticky in this thread called Which version and muscle vs fat. It will answer your questions.

Hi Everyone! Thank you for all of your responses.

I'm still up in the air, but leaning toward doing the Lean program. I'm thinking that I'll try that for a week and if it just isn't enough of a push for me, I'll start over and do the Classic. Either way, I plan on doing a second round (and third, and fourth. . .)so I'll do Classic next.

If I do decide to do the Lean program, do you think it would be a problem to substitute Plyo for Cardio X or Kenpo? I'd really like to work that video. I know that you can't spot train, but my other videos always say that working the quads, hamstrings, and butt burns the most fat because they are the largest muscle group in the body.

Thank you!

Wendy
