I've been looking into P90X for a few months now and decieded that I wanted to do it. It seems like you need to be in shape to give it a decent go so I bought the perfect pushups a few months ago and started doing those just to build up some strength. I am up to 40 max on those which is alot better then the 10 that I started with. I am worried I won't be able to keep up with the cardio though. I'm a male, 28, 5'5" and weigh 160 with a nice beer gut. Should I maybe start doing some jogging before I purchase it or can I work my way into it you think? I HATE running but can if I have to since I did run cross country years ago...

Thanks

40 pushups is a great starting place for P90X. I think if you start running a few times a week that it would help you initially with the cardio. I was running 5 miles every other day when I started the program and plyometrics kicked my butt, but I got through it all and I think I was more prepared for it because of the running.

I started P90X after recovering from a powerlifting injury to my wrist around May this year. I quit doing cardio completely around October of 2008. I was sedentary from May to September so I was out of shape. It is different for everyone, but I passed the fit test with no problems so I just jumped right into the workout. I struggled at first adjusting to the tempo of the strength training and with plyo, yoga, and kenpo. Around the third week is when I started being able to keep up with the workouts. Just wanted to give you my experience, hope it helps.

My humble suggestion is to complete the fit test and if you pass, start the program. I think even the most fit struggle in the beginning so I wouldn't worry to much about it. Tony says in the Plyo video that they tried to hire people to complete the video, but they couldn't do it. He had to use people from the pilot program. There are multitudes of threads on this website that answer common questions about the individual workouts if you struggling, so you are not alone. Good luck and I hope I helped!
