Introduction If there is one word that could be used to sum up the approach to recovery drink mechanics taken by the creators of the GU2O recovery drink, it would be balance. There is a balance between many of the different aspects recovery drinks are given credit for and because of that, the GU2O drink is an excellent choice for a starter recovery drink for an athlete that might not be entirely sure what they want out of their recovery drink. At the same time however, this balanced approach can create disadvantages, some of which are discussed in more detail below. See Also our other Recovery Drinks .
Why take GU2O Recovery Drink? The main pro that this drink has would have to be a well crafted balance between electrolytes and carbohydrates. What this essentially means is that at the same time this drink is helping your body replenish some of its much needed carbohydrate fuel, it is also replacing the electrolytes that drive bodily functions and allow the athlete to maintain their top class form. This drink is not a recovery drink specializing in one of these two areas, but rather one that attempts to replenish them both equally. This is why it is a great starter recovery drink for an athlete as it does not force them to make that choice between electrolytic replacement and carbohydrate fuel replenishment.
In addition to balance, the GU2O recovery drink also has minimal flavouring and sweetness. Athletes will sometimes underestimate the importance of these two things, but they are important for a very simple reason. The low sugar content is important because high sugar recovery drinks usually don't last as long as low sugar ones and the low natural flavouring is important because it leaves molecular space normally reserved for flavour molecules open and that in turn allows for the inclusion of other ingredients such as electrolytes which are vital contributors to the balance pro that was discussed in the previous paragraph.
Why not take the GU2O Recovery Drink? It is ironic how often the main advantage of a particular drink can simultaneously be the main disadvantage, but this is most definitely the case insofar as the GU2O recovery drink is concerned. That same balance that makes this drink great for the starting athlete is also the same balance that makes it a subpar choice for the athlete experienced with recovery drinks. An athlete at those higher levels will usually want specialization in either carbohydrate replenishment or electrolyte replacement depending on the particular situation they are in and when they are taking the drink. For this reason, most athletes operating at advanced levels of recovery drink mechanics will not give this particular drink a second glance.
Final Thoughts about the GU2O Recovery DrinkThe GU2O recovery drink is somewhat different from the previous drinks that have been discussed. The other drinks were mostly advanced recovery drinks for advanced athletes, but this one is a great choice for starters and for that reason it fills a vital niche in the recovery drink market.
