Introduction to Accelerade Accelerade is one of the few recovery drinks that have a large marketing budget behind them. Most of the recovery drinks inhabit the online world with cheaper advertising and business expenses and while this is true for Accelerade, you will also see it quite a bit in the offline world on billboards and in television commercials. Marketing and quality are two different things however and the following review will examine the main good and bad points regarding Accelerade. See all other Recovery Drinks .
Advantages of AcceleradeThe main pro that Accelerade has if you listen to the marketing behind it is supposedly this 4:1 ratio that they continually mention in almost all of the marketing material surrounding this particular product. Simply put, the argument that they are making is that a ratio of 4:1 between carbohydrate and protein molecules is the ideal recovery formula for an athlete based on what their body utilizes during high intensity physical activity. There are a multitude of studies that back this up and for that reason the creators of Accelerade do have a decent argument when it comes to this point. Accelerade at the current moment in time is unquestionably the best drink on the market today as far as maintaining that ratio is concerned.
Another pro of Accelerade that is worth mentioning just because of its uniqueness is the delivery system that has been developed for this product. Drinks and powders are the industry standard as far as recovery drinks are concerned and while Accelerade does some in both of these forms; it also comes in a gel form that is as innovative as it is unique. Rather than being designed for taking after a workout, the gel is designed for quick delivery during sporting events. If you are in the middle of a hockey game, you can utilize the Accelerade in gel form to get a boost to your endurance a lot faster than either the drink or the powder could deliver it. And in the end, that could make all the difference between victory and defeat. Any reason to not take Accelerade? The main con of Accelerade is that it does not really delve into the area of electrolytic replacement as much as some of the other products on the market do. There are electrolytes that get replaced when protein is taken, but truth be told the proteins and carbohydrates are really just there to fuel the fires of your body rather than to replace the electrolytes that refine those processes. For this reason, Accelerade is most definitely a drink specializing in giving you a massive energy boost and not one specializing in replacing your body's electrolytes. Depending on the type of athlete you are and the particular situation in which the drink is being used, this could potentially be a very bad thing. Final Thoughts on AcceleradeAccelerade is a great drink if you are looking for a massive boost of energy quick. In this particular narrow niche of the recovery drinks, it is arguable that there is no other drink that functions better than Accelerade.

, on 01-03-2009 05:30 This article never addressed the taste, which is chalky and ....well yuck. I bought a couple bottles to drink while riding a half a century, and was glad when it was gone. As far as energy boosters go, there are PLENTY out there that taste better. I don't know if the benefit outweighs the deficit. |
