The 17 Day Diet - Day 9

Day 9 on the 17 day diet and I finally felt it was “safe” to weigh again and I’m down another pound so that’s a total of 6.5 lbs in 9 days.   That’s pretty good if you ask me!  I know some people have lost more in that amount of time but as long as the scale continues to go down that’s all right by me.  I feel great and I’m not hungry.  I definitely still have cravings – sweets primarily – but I’m sure that would be an issue regardless of what “diet” I was on.

To curb those nighttime cravings for sugar I have been chewing sugar free gum.  My favorite is Key Lime Pie flavor. It really seems to help immediately following a meal to either chew gum or brush my teeth.

I’ve had a lot of questions on  Green Tea and the Lemon Water.

Of course this isn’t “MY” diet, meaning I didn’t create it but the way I understand why the need for Green Tea is it’s filled with antioxidants which aid in detoxing the body.  From what I’ve read, it can actually help aid in weight loss.  It is a powerful fat burner.  Additionally, while it doesn’t curb your appetite or cause digestive “distress” it contains theanine which is supposed to calm the mind and promote relaxation.  So while it won’t curb your appetite, maybe you won’t care if you’re hungry?

The lemon water is good for your digestion especially when mixed with hot water.  (I admit I put Truvia – sweetener in mine) It is supposed to help aid in eliminating waste more efficiently and the lemon acts as a blood purifier and as a cleansing agent.  I’ve also read that it acts as a liver tonic and helps you digest your food by helping your liver product more bile.  All in all it aids in weight loss.

So far my weight loss has looked like this:

  • Day 2  Didn’t weigh
  • Day 3  Didn’t weigh
  • Day 4  Didn’t weigh
  • Day 5  3.5
  • Day 6  1.5
  • Day 7  0.5
  • Day 8  Didn’t weigh
  • Day 9  1.0

Total:  6.5 lbs

Here’s my menu for today:

  • Breakfast: Fat Free plain Greek yogurt with Truvia and Blueberries
  • Snack: Fat Free cottage cheese and apple slices sprinkled with cinnamon.
  • Lunch: Taco Salad from recipe in the book – It’s a favorite
  • Dinner: Grilled Chicken in Cabbage Rolls with spicy mustard and Green Beans

Made the chicken soup, minus the chicken, to have whenever hungry. Had some before dinner.
Drank lots of water today!  Yay, me!

So I’m off to the gym again today although I’m dragging.  During the First Cycle you’re to keep exercise to a minimum but as I’ve said, once I get to the gym I want to do as much as possible.  I still haven’t met my goal of going more often for less time or even just going more often.  Since I was a trainer my body responds well to exercise.  Next week I’m going to really make an effort to go at least three, hopefully four times.  Wish me luck!  Or perseverance!  Or stamina!  Or, how bout just some good sense!!?!

Thanks for reading and thanks for encouraging each other.  It sure helps to have support doesn’t it?

  1. My 5th day & am loosing a lb.a day! Staying full but miss my sweets. today I made eggs vanilla & trivia muffins.they were sweet&ate one for desert. Guess it is OK its pure protein .. Having to think outside the box for tasty dinners the first cycle. We love peanut butter can we have it later?,
  2. Is it okay to eat peanuts or almonds? I love this as a source of protein. If not, why? Thank you for you help.
  3. I am a vegan. are beans (white and red) and lentils are good substitutes? Pls let me know. Thanks!
  4. I am on my 3day of the diet going into my 4th day. I don't find the diet hard to follow in the sense that I like egg whites and just about all of the other foods. I am having some issues with trying to come up with other things to cook for dinner. Also I am tired of snacking on plain yogurt with jam..any suggestions... :-)
  5. I'm on Day 2 and appreciate reading all your comments. I feel this is finally something I can stick with ....for at least 17 days. Worried about days 18-34.....but one step at a time!
  6. down 7 lbs..is it really good to eat "sugar free" yogurts, aren't we eating other chemicals..same with fat-free cheese
  7. I've been on the diet for avwk and I have lost 5 lbs, I'm a bit confessed can you have yogurt and a boil egg for breakfast?
  8. Can you have non fat no sugar added frozen yogurt before 2pm in a small portion?
  9. Four days and down 3.5 pounds. I believe I have cracked the code! The 17 day diet limits you to certain foods on each cycle, but the bottom line is....nothing I have been eating is processed. No cereal in the morning, no sandwiches (bread) for lunch, no rice at dinner...no granola bars or even protein bars in between meals. It's simple, eat fresh! My husband, 16 yr old daughter, and 13 yr old son are also doing modified versions of the diet. This has been great so far....love it! I am wondering, is sugar free, fat free ice cream allowed occasionally?
  10. Please....if you are hungry all the time AND a female past the age of 35 or 40....have your OB/GYN or family practice doctor check your hormone levels. I was having that same problem and mine was the level of a 9 year old girl. If your estrogen is drastically decreasing or low already....your body will try to hold on to every fat cell....because your fat cells make supplemental estrogen and your body won't want to give that up !! Bio-identical hormone replacement in cream form is a wonderful solution....and won't cause weight gain like birth control pills do for some women. Good luck.
  11. Hello All-I purchased the book and am on day 6 of the diet. So far, I have dropped from 179lbs to 172-losing 7lbs!!! I do need to kick my water and veggie intake up a notch, but aside from that I have not eaten a "morsel" outside of the recommended foods. I did not find the recipes in the book appealing and feel limited in terms of the protein only meats. However, I am excited about the additional options allowed in the "Activate" cycle. Here is a great recipe I used to make a No-Bean Chili Soup that is in 100% compliance of the "Accelerate" cycle: Brown ground turkey, onions, bell peppers & garlic in a teaspoon of olive oil-add chili spices and canned tomatoes. This quick recipe was a life saver for my taste buds! I wish everyone well and will post again soon!
  12. It's allowed but as a "negative water" meaning if you drink a soda you have to increase your water intake to "balance" it out.
  13. Under the "negative water" section, page 29, it lists various drinks : Coffee, Tea, Diet Sodas, Regular Soda, Energy drinks, Juice, and Sports drinks. THere are 3 with and asterik, the coffee, tea, and diet sodas, Below indicating the content of the asterik, it says coffee and tea are allowed on the diet, but dont count towards 8 glasses of water, diet soda was one that had an asterik too, does that mean its ok???? Im sorry if its a dumb question, but the book is not too specific.
  14. There are recipes on the blog for variety...let me know if you have questions. Make sure to drink the water..some say it's easier with a straw!
  15. Started the diet yesterday and loving it! Snowed in today so thinking I will make the soup:) I bought vegetable steamers in the frozen section of the grocery and some froze fish---very easy and quick to prepare:)
  16. Truvia is allowed...there is no "minimum" but obviously the less the better (although I use it like it's going out of style sometimes) Coffee is okay. Creamer..well no, not officially although I've had it in my ONE CUP of coffee and maybe it's slowed my loss but it's that or I go nuts! I do try to only have one cup a day and keep the "white stuff" to a minimum. Hope that helps.
  17. I have a couple questions, if anyone can answer I would greatly appreciate it. Is truvia allowed?? if so, how many packets a day??? How about coffee?? coffee with lowfat creamer???
  18. The nasty headache is the same one I get when I detox, so it will go away in a few days (currently starting day 3 today). Am a little hungry in between meals, and the water helps with that and the snacks. Not a big caffeine user so the green tea is limited to early in the day to avoid sleeping issues later on. Don't exercise too vigorously that will increase your appetite too much. The DVD exercises are good as well as just walking.
  19. The book doesn't mention anything about almonds or any other nuts. Are they allowed on the first cycle or is that a phase 2 or 3 food. Im a pilot and am obviously traveling a lot. Any other travelers out there have any suggestions about navigating the uber healthy airport food selections?
  20. waiting for book, please anyone give me a clue what 2nd 17 days is suppose to be..thanks
  21. Hi Daniel. I think when you start eating all of the protein and healthy veggies, and eliminating the carbs and sugars, your hunger will start to go away. The proteins (chicken, turkey, eggs and certain fish) are unlimited at meals so if you truly are still hungry, you can eat more. Just be careful not to stuff yourself. I have even had a can of tuna later in the evening because I was hungry and veggies were just not doing it. If you are still hungry, then you might not be eating enough protein. I am down 8 lb after 17 days.
  22. Thank you Daniel and Terri so much for replying to the comment. Okay, so I can eat as much as I want from the freebies list? But will those effect the diet if I eat TOO much of those? I get hungry all the time, and I'm not even on the diet yet; I ordered the book two weeks ago but its still not here yet. And do you think the foods are hard to make? I'm a college student, I have so little free time to cook and the last time I cooked, half of my meat was still raw. Haha, thank you once again!
  23. When are you going to post day 9?
  24. You need to eat more protein if you're hungry. you shouldn't be. Have little protein snacks (off the "Freebie list") or veggies. I'm glad you like reading the posts! Thank you, that makes it all worth writing them!
  25. not be hungry on this diet. I've heard of some eating even less although I'm not sure that's too good. You can have unlimited proteins (on a list) and veggies so if you're hungry, eat away ... as long as it's on that list! If you go to the blog you can start the diet prior to getting the book. Let me know how you're doing!
  26. You go immediately to the 4th Cycle, maintenance! YAY YOU!!! Re: Peanut butter I get asked this A LOT. (Lots of p-nut butter lovers out there) I would do this..I would count is as a fat and as a portion of beans, nuts and legumes. That's what I would do. Good for you! You've done an outstanding job!
  27. Thank you for all of the help!! it is great to have someone to answer questions! I have lost 9 lbs. on Accelerate and start activiate in 2 days! Do you happen to know why peanut butter or nuts are not on the diet? They are a great source of protein for vegetarians. If I reach my goal weight during Activiate, do I have to complete the full 17 days of Activate?
  28. Even though you may only eat ~1,200 kcals per day, you are still eating much healthier overall. The energy comes from the protein intake mainly (protein gives energy in a more long-term form, while carbs typically provide energy in a short-term form), but a little energy can be contributed to the caffeine in the green tea. Katie: about the green tea...now I live in NC, so we typically drink tea sweetened (not sure where you live), but for lunch and dinner I like to drink my green tea on ice with Truvia to sweeten it. Now I know Dr. Moreno says it's better to drink it hot so that you don't drink it too quickly...but I think I can manage to drink it slowly anyway.
  29. Hey Terri, I still love reading your post. I've started the diet and I'm on day 3. I love the food mostly b/c its packed with flavor. THe only thing is is that i am starving. I'm eating right and following the diet. I dont know maybe its because I'm so used to pigging out. If you have any suggestions please help.
  30. Hi, I just have a question, I have been reading the blogs and I am very interested in this diet. I just placed an order for the book, but now I'm wondering whether the weight loss is just due to the decrease in food intake; I noticed that you were only eating ~1,200 calories a day. I dont think I would be able to do that without being hungry. When people say they get a lot of energy, where does it come from if they are eating so much less? Thanks!
  31. I am totally elated with this diet and have lost 8 pounds in 9 days! Hopefully it keeps up. I want to lose another 6 pounds before my honeymoon in a few weeks. :) I have been trying to add tea to my lunch, too, and sometimes its difficult to choke down. Cooking with olive oil is great!
