The 17 Day Diet - Day 4 - Accelerated Cycle

Some readers have written asking exactly what’s on the 17 Day Diet.  As I told Peggy in the comments section on my previous days blog posts, it’s not “my book” or “my diet” and I don’t profit in any way from either.  (In other words Dr. Moreno is not my brother, husband, doctor or even a long lost cousin and I’m not his book publisher or agent!)

What I can do is tell you how I’m doing on the diet, what my journey is and what I personally feel the pros and cons of the diet are.   I can’t give you the exact information found in the book but I can give you an overview so you can see if this might be the healthy weight loss program for you. Today I thought I would share with you a bit more about the accelerated cycle.  Please do read this to learn more and post comments at the end of this post or in the forum here.

The diet starts with a 7 to 17-day cycle (Depending on how much weight you have to lose, see next paragraph, that’s designed to initiate rapid weight loss in a healthy way. This cycle also helps correct poor digestion and clears your body of possible toxins. Dr. Moreno says that improper digestion and a build-up of toxins can hold your body back from fat-burning so for rapid, sustained weight loss, both situations need to be corrected.

As directed in the book if you 10 pounds or less to lose you should spend 7 days on this cycle; 10 days if you have 20 pounds to lose, or 17 days if you have more than 30 pounds to lose - many people can expect to lose as much as 7 pounds the first week.

On the first cycle, the Accelerated Cycle, you can eat as much as you want of lean proteins (chicken, fish, turkey or eggs) and cleansing vegetables (listed in the book).

Supplement these foods with 2 fibrous fruits daily (listed in the book)

2 servings of probiotic foods such as yogurt, kefir, Yakult, acidophilus milk, reduced salt miso dissolved in low-fat, low-sodium broth, sauerkraut (1/2 cup a serving)

1 serving of friendly fat (listed in the book)

You don’t have to count anything, except your 2 fruit daily servings, your 2 daily probiotic servings, and your 1 friendly fat serving.  That’s it!

Here is a typical day on the Accelerate Cycle:

 Breakfast

  • 2 eggs or 4 egg whites, (or any lean protein) prepared without oil; or 1 serving probiotic food such as yogurt
  • 1 fruit serving
  • 1 cup green tea

Lunch

  • Liberal amounts of protein in the form of fish, poultry, or eggs; or cleansing vegetables + 1 probiotic serving
  • Unlimited amounts of cleansing vegetables

Dinner

  • Liberal amounts of protein in the form of fish or chicken
  • Unlimited amounts of cleansing vegetables

Snacks

  • 2nd fruit serving
  • 2nd probiotic serving

Additional

  • 1 serving (1 to 2 tablespoons of friendly fat to use on salads, vegetables, or for cooking)

  1. Anyone else experiencing this? Today is 11 days and only 4 pounds. Granted, I started at 139 which might not be alot for some, however I am 5ft 3in and would like to be around 125. I have been religious on following it... Is it because I don't have 30+ pounds???
  2. I am on first cycle day 7 and have lost 4lbs...for last 3 days haven't lost anything! A couple days I haven't been able to eat both servings of probiotics and/or both servings of fruit....could that be messing things up?
  3. I started the diet on Monday and it is now Thursday. I cant tell any difference in my size. My biggest problem is that I suffer from stomach cramps all the time with some nausea. I am following the book and have not cheated. What am I doing wrong?
  4. Ok, so today is day 3 for me. As of this morning I have lost 2.5 lbs (in 48 hours) that is crazy good. I have to admit I was a little skeptical at first. I am very excited to see where this goes. Quick question...Can men do this diet? Unitl next time:)
  5. I just started the diet today and I only have 15-20 lbs to lose. I work on a horse farm four hours a day and I'm constantly walking horses to and from stalls, paddocks, pastures, etc. I also haul wheelbarrows of manure and a cart that holds 100 lbs of feed. I ride, too. Can my job be counted towards my 17 minutes of exercise? I would think so but who knows? I'm sure other people on the diet have very physical jobs too.
  6. On day 4 and down 3 pounds. I did not weigh today tho. The hardest has been no carbs after 2pm. My husband is doing it with me!
  7. where are getting the book from? Every place I look it says it does not come out until March 15?
  8. I am going to start this diet on monday. Can I drink protein shakes on this diet as a replacement for the lean protein in my meal? Also is it ok to put a little half/half in my morning coffee?
  9. My sister introduced me to this diet. I am so excited and ready to get started. Looking forward to chatting with you all and good luck to everyone.
  10. Today is actually my first day, but I still have some questions that I didn't see in the book or maybe missed the information. First, is the green tea in addition to the water intake? and how much green tea can you, or should you, have? Can that be either hot or cold/iced? Also I read that coffee is a negative water, but not having any today has given me quite a headache. --- Is there anything I can put in it instead of milk or creamer? I typically use dried milk but am assuming that isn't allowed, correct? Thanks for any help... Lee
  11. I started this diet in early February. The first night I lost 2 lbs. I stuck with it and then learned why it works. You have to eat differently every other day. That's how you trick your metabolism into losing weight. One day eat protein and veggies and then next day add carbs. You body will always be guessing, speeding up your metabolism. Incidentially, I always eat regular on weekends because I can't deprive myself. It's been 2 weeks on the diet and I'm down a solid 8 lbs. That includes eating on weekends. And remember....calories in...calories out!
  12. I am on day 3 of the diet. My husband and I are doing it together. We each only have about 10 pounds to lose. I know it's not much but despite regular excercise and a healthy diet I just hit a plateau and couldn't lose those 5 lbs so gave up and gained 5 more. It's pretty good so far...just not a lot of variety but that's ok...it's worth it. I look forward to seeing how this works out and seeing if my hubby can stick to it!
  13. and we are also collecting recipes for Super Bowl! Hopefully these things will help you. You can make food for company and they won't even know it's "healthy!"
  14. i have just ordered the book from the website (best price ever!), and have already started the diet..............thanks to you, terri. i am very excited about this endeavor. the only thing that scares me is that we have company VERY often. i hope i can handle eating correctly at those times, as well.
  15. I just ordered the book. The blog is very helpful but I'm wondering about my morning coffee. It's a must for me - with a little bit of soy milk creamer. Any suggestions?
  16. if you need some additional guidance.
  17. im starting this 17 day diet things can you please email me with what i should do during the first week
  18. it's just an "old way" brought back to "look new." I don't think there's any REAL new ways to be honest! :)
  19. Patrick the Dr. talks about this in the book and in fact it is on page 61!
  20. Have you heard of a new method to lose weight entitled The Every Other Day Diet? Well, it could be the gospel for those who are suffering!
  21. recipe section on the blog you may want to check out. Some pretty terrific stuff there. Also the Eggplant recipe in the book is great. If you email me I'll direct you to additional recipes if you want. CLUCK, cluck, cluck, cluck....... Oh and I'm not a fish eater but someone told me to soak it in milk prior to cooking and it takes the "fish" taste away. It works! Remember, it's only 17 days and then you can add additional proteins! Hang in there!
  22. started the diet 3.5 days ago. I am having fish tonight because otherwise I would go stark, raving, crazy if I have to eat chicken, turkey or eggs again. I think I am starting to grow feathers.
  23. This is wonderful. We are on day 3.5! (started midday) My hubby has lost 6..and I have lost 4.5. We are in for the long haul... My health has been affected by my weight and we are tired of carrying around the extra loads! Thanks for the place to learn and meet.
  24. are a couple of people on the blog that do shift work. If you go there [click on the home page icon n my comment here] and read the comments it might be helpful to read their experience. I'm not sure why it wouldn't work for you. You're just exchanging your meals to a different time of day, right?
  25. I am thinking of trying this diet. I've been reading about you journey. I am just like you but I work overnights and am not sure whether this diet would need to be adapted to my schedule. The two days I have off per week are spent just like everyone else but the other 5 are different. What would I have to do to make this diet work for me?
  26. Not to confuse you more BUT there is a lot of confusion over the yogurt and left to interpretation. One reader says: "When I read the yogurt part, it plainly states any type. He then lists all the types afterwards. He separates sugar free and fat-free with a
  27. Can the yogurt be low fat (Dannon 80 calorie) or does it need to be sugar free? It's not very clear in the book. Also, can you have your yogurt as a snack in the evening? Also, can you munch on the "free veggies" after dinner? Thanks!
  28. That has to be a record! Now you may stabalize some but that's okay. Some say they those 4 or 5 lbs in the first few days only to gain a pound or two back but I think if you're losing 2-4 lbs a week, on average, you're doing GREAT and you are ahead of the curve. Just make sure you're eating enough!
  29. I am SHOCKED this morning when I weighed myself. I started this diet 3 1/2 days ago and weighed 142.2 when i started and today I am at 134.6! It does not even seem possible!
  30. I'm so happy you're joining us! Please let me know if you have any questions and I look forward to hearing of your progress!
  31. Hi. I've been reading your blog and i must say that I love it. I just ordered my book and dvd yesterday, so now i'm just waiting for it to come so that i can get started. Please continue to blog about your progress so at least I'll know that its working for somebody out there and that will provide me with the motivation to keep going.
  32. You might try sparkling water with lemon or lime and Truvia mixed in. Sodas aren't totally taboo - they are considered "negative waters" so if you balance out with an extra glass of water I think you'd be okay. I'd keep it to a minimum though. I have one every day or two! Diet of course.
  33. The book says you can use vegan "meat" imitations. The diet has almost an "unlimited vegetable" list so I think you'd do okay.
  34. Before I invest in the book, I need to know if foods can easily be adapted for a vegetarian? I cannot seem to find any information or recipes for me. --- Thanks!
  35. but I do occasionally have a diet soda. Shhh...don't tell Dr. Moreno! I just can't help myself. BUT I do try to limit it to one a day or one every other day! Of course it's best to kick the diet soda habit totally if you can.
  36. Does anyone have a good alternative to diet soda. I need something with the carbination because it makes me feel full. Everything I look at has a bunch of sugar it in. Definately don't want that now do we? :-) Any suggestions?
  37. Without a doubt that's been the hardest for me..OH and my daily, morning latte! BUT it's not that I'll never "see" them again. I just won't see them for 30 more pounds! You're both doing such a great job.
  38. I am on day 3.So far - I love it. I am a sugar addict so the adjustment has been HUGE. I am having trouble fitting in my exercise but will make it happen today. I wish we could have yogurt and fruit at night... Oh, well - this too shall pass. I am not weighing for a week. Once I do, I will update you. I have betwwen 80-85 lbs to lose. I have teamed up with a friend - so that has helped A LOT! Good luck!
  39. I am on day 2 of the accelerated diet and have to say it is an adjustment. I do feel a bit more.... I guess you would say lighter but not in the weight sense, maybe just because I'm eating less. I hate yogurt but opted for the Kifer and manage to choke it down. I weighed myself after the first day and had lost 2 pounds! I'm sure it won't be 2 pounds every day! So I have decided to just avoid the scale until the 17th day. I have 45-50 pounds ideally to shead. I am commited to this and am trying to come up with clever ways to eat all those veggies. Good luck everyone.
