The 17 Day Diet - Day 3

So, I got up, ate an egg white omelet, about four slices of peaches from a can – packed in water, not syrup and a sausage patty and then I…

“WAIT JUST A MINUTE, MISSY!  Did you say you ate a sausage patty?”

“Huh?”

“YES, you said you ate a sausage patty!  I read it!  Right up there!  You said you ate an egg white omelet and a sausage patty!  That’s not ‘lean’ protein…a sausage patty!  You’ve got to be kidding me!!”

Oh no my friend, I beg to differ.  I have a secret weapon.  I actually ate a sausage-like patty made from vegetables.  Yes, you read me right and no, I’m not a vegetarian.  I’ve never eaten a “fake meat like substance” in my life but I’ve got to tell you, this was amazing. It tastes JUST LIKE SAUSAGE.  The real kind.  With grease and fat and pork.  I usually pass “that” section (You know the one, with all the tofu and veggie hot dogs) of the grocery store like the plague but this time I thought I’d at least give it a try and honestly it was delicious.

Let’s face it you’ve got to come up with ways to make food interesting or the ‘diet’ won’t last!  If you can’t come up with a few meals you actually look forward to the likelihood of cheating increases. Part of that is experimenting with foods you haven’t tried before.  Be adventurous!  Choose different foods in each food group.

I have to admit the scale was the same today and I found that discouraging at first but it is the holiday and I have “cheated” although I’ve tried to stay in check.  I also allowed myself to get too hungry before arriving at family’s for dinner.  BIG MISTAKE!  Actually I was not ‘hungry,’ I was famished!  I should have eaten an apple or had some soup before I left the house but I didn’t and I paid the price.  The scale didn’t go up which I guess is a good thing – but it didn’t go down either.  In fact to keep from getting discouraged I’m not going to weigh myself tomorrow.

Tomorrow is another big event and I hope to keep myself in check.  I’ve noticed the family events are the worst.  It seems people get personally insulted if you don’t eat the cake they spent the past three days making “especially for you!”

I think my usual pattern is to not eat breakfast or lunch thinking, I’ll only eat the one meal, but what happens instead is I allow myself to get too hungry and then I overeat.  My strategy hasn’t worked until now yet I keep attempting the same strategy!  Isn’t that the definition of insanity?  Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

The gym is closed and the weather isn’t very cooperative. I wasn’t able to walk yesterday or today or most likely not tomorrow so that isn’t helping either.  I’m apprehensive about the dinner tomorrow – but will try to change my strategy – eating an apple prior to arrival and see if that doesn’t make a difference.  I’ll let you know what happens tomorrow!  Until then….

  1. At limited amounts as instructed in the book! I think string cheese is allowed on Cycle 2 but I will have to look it up to make sure! If you read the blog, the comments sections, you will learn a lot. Also on the right hand side of the blog page is a link to the Facebook site. Under DISCUSSIONS there are recipes!   2. I appreciate the encouragment. I'm in the same boat you know...struggling along doing the best I can, good days and bad days. I just know overall this works and I've tried so many other diets. I know it's not THE plan for everybody...but it's worth a try and it's healthy. I find it encouraging to drop those initial pounds so quickly. Of course the loss slows down a bit but it's still going in the "left" direction! Terri

  4. Hi Terri, I don't get my book for a few more days but I have been trying to eat the lean meats and vegetables as stated in the blog (I started today). I am just wandering if cheese is okay? I had some pepper jack on some vegies and a couple string cheeses today. I know you can't give specifics about the book but can you please advise on if I can have cheese or not. Thanks and thanks for blogging about this. I am in it with you too. Good Luck!
  5. Hi, My family just started the 17 Day Diet and it's great to see others doing it too. My mom is on Day 3, while the rest of us are on Day 2 (she is having a surgery soon, and figured she'd get a head start). I love reading about things that you have eaten. The veggie sausage is a great idea. I've tried mini veggie corn dogs in the past, and they were good (unfortunately, that's carbs! haha) I look forward to continuing the diet and reading your blog!
