It is now day 42 on my weight loss diet and I had my first "setback". I gained a half pound and must admit when I got off the scale I had a bit of disappointment. Dieting is hard and I think I have a body type where I can shed weight fairly easily. I am even considering switching to Atkins Diet for two weeks. If you have not followed along with all my previous posts that started from before day one, please go to my table of contents for my personal weight loss blog . After thinking about it a bit more (weight myself 2 hours ago) I really wasn't too upset as plateau's often happen around this time from my research and personal experience on previous diets. I just need to be very vigilant about what I eat and drink, which as the whole damn world knows, is hard. For example, I am going up to a neighbors house today to watch the Capitals vs. Flyers (yes, I live in the Washington DC Metro area) and I know he will want to have some tastey food and beer. I need to stick to water, water, and more water and perhaps a carrot as a treat! Hah!
Exercises Day 36 through 42I thought it was a good week of exercise, but perhaps not? So I decided, while writing this, to do a bit of research. But first, let me list what exercising I did: - Tuesday - Thirty minute workout (total time), 10 minutes bike and 20 minutes of pushups and dumb bell biceps
- Wednesday - Two Hours of Tennis which is why my Tuesday workout was so short, I didn't want to be too tired but thats when I thought I would do two hours of tennis on Thursday which....I did not.
- Thursday - Tennis fell through,
, So I did my push ups and dumb bell curls as normal. - Saturday - I got a call from one of my tennis buddies and off we went for two hours of tennis! Nice bonus to the weeks worth of exercise.
Now the research and see Does Tennis Burn Calories? How Many Calories does Tennis Burn? Well I played what Is called Canadian Doubles Tennis, which means you play with 3 people and you rotate after each serving game who plays singles tennis and who plays doubles. So my research has shown for my weight of 218 pounds I burned approximately 520 calories per hour of tennis and I did two two hour sessions this week which is 2080 calories this week just on tennis. to me thats pretty darn good. So Why did I gain weight? I wish I knew! Let us take a look at my diet. Diet Day 36 Through 42 I had my normal diet (good example of my diet see the diet section in that blog entry) and my "cheat day" was Friday night where I hosted poker night with beer and chips and Saturday I had 3 donuts. Other then that I was a good boy all week so a bit surprised I gained a half pound but thats life! Looking Forward - Days 43 through 49 I guess I need to pay attention more to what I eat so perhaps a good idea for me this week is to keep a diary of everything I eat. Every single nibble. Lets give that a shot and see what happens. If I have another week on the Body For Life diet like this I am going to switch to Atkins for two weeks as that always works pretty well for me.
