Treadmill Desk - Walk While You Work!

The treadmill desk is a revolutionary concept that has taken away any excuses you have for not exercising.  Dr. James Levine of the Mayo Clinic came up with the concept of the treadmill desk.  The idea is to slowly walk on a treadmill while you are working at your desk, which is connected to the treadmill.

It combines work with exercise, allowing you to spend your time getting into shape, while you are working.  It also frees up your time that you would have to spend exercising, allowing you to have more time for family and fun.

Skepticism

There are some people that feel it is impossible to walk and work productively, as they may not be able to concentrate on walking, while concentrating on the work at hand.  The facts are that you will only be walking 1 to 2 miles per hour, which will not require you to think about walking, but will actually get your blood moving, likely improving your concentration.

Treadmill Desk and Weight Loss

The secret to weight loss and overall general health is activity.  A sedentary life simply causes weight gain and poor health.  It is also important to understand that while working out 30 minutes three to four times per week is an improvement for some, it will not be enough to reduce your body fat for losing weight, especially if you lead a sedentary life the other 23 ½ hours that are left in each day.

Imagine losing 40 pounds in one year by simply walking 1 mile per hour while you are working instead of just sitting down.   Next imagine losing 57 pounds in one year!  This goal may take a lot more dedication, but according to Dr. Levine, it can be done.  In fact, the latter goal would require you to replace 8 hours of sitting with 8 hours of slow walking.  This may be a difficult goal for some, but not impossible, by any means.

If a treadmill desk is not in your budget, or you already have a treadmill, you can turn your ordinary treadmill into a treadmill desk.  You will need to have a wooden shelf, a working treadmill, and a computer.

Keep in mind the shape and size of the wooden shelf so that it fits properly over the top of the treadmill.  The wooden shelf can be made from any wood; however, light wood or plywood may reduce the risk of danger that the treadmill may not be able to take the weight of the shelf causing it to topple.
