Good point Kevin but many people watching their weight and even athletes will take whey protein as a substitute meal. I did this (read my weight loss blog area on this site) to great success. A whey protein shake in the morning as your breakfast worked well for me to get the protein I needed to continue strength training (more muscles burns more calories) but limited my calorie and carb intake. 
 
On that note, protein to carb in take should be about 1.5:1 (protein:carb) for great success for training with weight loss in mind.
