A common theme seen in many gyms is the person who works out well for a while and then, just when they are seeing some results, stops coming to the gym for workouts each day.

After a few months have passed, they come back to the gym to start working out again and are in just as bad shape as they were when they first started working out.  They have inevitably gained back the weight they lost, and more in many cases, and all the strength progresses are gone thanks to a lack of muscle usage.

Sitting down and talking with these part time workout gurus, the excuses begin to fly when they are asked why they stopped coming in to the gym for workouts.
  • I have been “too busy” to workout thanks to stresses and projects at work.
  • Shoulder or arm injuries made them think they could no longer work out.
  • Knee, ankle or leg injuries made them think they could no longer work out.
  • House renovations, family issues, kid issues, and more excuses fly through the air.
It is easy to see where this is going. If your physical body and health is important to you, these things need to be a part of your daily routine, no matter what comes up in everyday life. Only you can decide whether you want to be physically fit or not!

When it comes to physical fitness, the benefits reach far beyond your outer appearance. The health of your inner body and the time you will be able to enjoy life on earth are all directly related to the habits you entertain in the gym. You need to make physical fitness a priority in your life that holds as much clout as any of the excuses you can muster as to why you stopped coming to the gym.

Now back to those excuses and how I feel about them.

#1 ExcuseWork is keeping you too busy. In order to stay physically fit, all you need to do is incorporate 5 to 10 minutes of intense fitness before and after your workday. Anyone can fit in at least 10 minutes, so there goes that 1st excuse.

#2 Excuse
Arm and shoulder injuries kept you out of the gym. While our bodies work together as a concise unit, that does not mean your arms and shoulders are the only spots on the body you can work. Legs, abs, back…these are all great places to work. As a matter of fact, the leg muscles are the largest in the body and they are the ones that will build larger, faster and stronger to increase your overall fitness level more quickly. Sorry, excuse #2 busted!

#3 Excuse
Leg and knee injuries keeping your workouts at bay. Yet again, just because one half of your body is not working does not mean the other half is lame. Of course, I understand the fact that there are some serious injuries that prevent 100% of exercise, but minor injuries leave your ready and able to work out the uninjured part of the body.

#4 Excus
e – Home life keeping you too busy. You love your family, which is evident. But, keeping physically fit will help you to live a longer, healthier life able to keep up with your kids and grandkids for many years to come. Falling back to excuse #1, 10 minutes a day is not too much to fit in and with the kids around, you can make your workouts a family affair. Kids are a great way to boost that work out diversity.  This excuse, like the others, is SMASHED!

I realize that these facts may seem a bit harsh worded, but when it comes to physical fitness, there are rarely excuses that will hold any kind of water. Physical fitness needs to become a part of your everyday life and not a burden worthy of an excuse not to accomplish all you can in the gym. Making time for physical fitness requires thought and dedication, but you will see the benefits and so will those that love you the most. Get in the gym, work out and leave the excuses at the door.
