TurboJam Review : The Turbo Jam Phenomenon
Last Updated ( Saturday, 19 June 2010 )

Another featured Beachbody review of the TurboJam DVD workout. The Turbo Jam cardio exercise is covered in detail in our recent hands on reviews.

TurboJam

The rise in Turbo Jams popularity is staggering. People are truly happy with this product and it’s not hard to see why. Unlike most television promoted exercise plans, Turbo Jam relies on hard work to achieve fast weight loss results.

It’s a fact that most exercise miracle-working cures don’t work. If losing weight, and being a muscle toned fitness buff was easy, then let’s face it, most of us would choose to be that way. We’d all be walking around with our shirts unbuttoned to show off our shapely abs and running a few miles a day just because we can.

The reality is so much gloomier. In order to lose weight and keep it off, you have to sweat. You have to work at it each and every day. You have to eat properly, which means cutting back or abstaining from your favorite sweet treats and greasy foods.

You may also want to check out Zumba.

Exercise (see other exercise reviews) is rarely comfortable. You’re stretching, flexing and working on muscles in order to make them larger and more resilient. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn doing every day things. That’s why it’s a bit hard to believe that by following the Turbo Jam exercise program, you will burn 1000 calories, and drop ten pounds or ten inches in ten days. Frankly, that’s unlikely.

If you were to go to the gym and work out at a high intensity, you would probably only burn six hundred calories in an hour. Yet, the longest Turbo Jam workout is only forty-five minutes. Somehow the numbers don’t match, and are probably inflated in order to sell the product.

TurboJam Overview

If you were to buy the Turbo Jam fitness program, it would cost you 3 monthly payments of $19.95 plus shipping and handling. You would receive five videos in total: Learn and Burn, which is 30 minutes long, Turbo Sculpt, which is 40 minutes long, 20 Minute Workout, which is 20 minutes, Cardio Party, which is 45 minutes and Ab Jam, which is 20 minutes long. You would also receive Elite 11 flashcards, which show you the moves you need to learn, and how to achieve them. You would also get the diet plan, Turbo Sculpting Gloves and a Rapid Results Program.

For the price, that’s not a bad deal if it works. The question is, does it work?

Many people have bought the Turbo Jam exercise and diet plan, and by all reports, it works. They may not report losing the advertised ten pounds in ten days, but they do lose weight, generally feel healthier and like the program.

Does it Work?

By combining kick boxing, aerobics and a good diet plan, Turbo Jam works. Discussion boards all over the Internet are full of people saying that the program works for them and that they love to work out using it.

Chalene Johnson is a good host, and the videos are filled with easy to listen to dance music, to keep you motivated.

The biggest reason why Turbo Jam has turned into a fitness phenomenon is that it’s genuinely fun. You get a good workout and have fun doing it. As a result, people keep doing it, and don’t give up. If you can look forward to your workout, then it’s far more likely that you will continue to do it.

Most people don’t enjoy going to a gym every day and pumping weights and running on the treadmill. It’s not appealing, and at the same time it can be time consuming. Most people live busy lives. They work for eight hours or more, have kids and wives or husbands at home, not to mention all the little things that need doing on a daily basis and they just don’t have the 1-2 hours they would need to go to the gym and workout. Add to that the expense of a gym membership and the fact that many people feel uncomfortable working out in front of others, and you can see why Turbo Jam is so popular.

Are there any Cons to doing Turbo Jam?

Image

There are a few things that might deter someone from buying Turbo Jam. Some people complain that the program is hard on their knees, and so they can’t complete the program. Some people don’t like the dance music, and because the infomercial suggests that you will lose so much weight in so little time, they are disappointed when they don’t lose that much weight.

However, while you may not lose the pounds promised in so short a time, it’s definitely no sham that you will lose weight if you stick to the diet and exercise plans. Turbo Jam works the major muscle groups, and while it might not burn the 1000 pounds the infomercials say it will it does burn a lot of calories. Turbo Jam is a total body workout that is fun and easy to use.

That’s the point really. By combining a good diet and regular exercise, you’ve found the recipe to weight loss and total body fitness. If Turbo Jam helps you to achieve that, then it’s well worth the three payments of $19.95.

Along with all of the products you receive when you purchase Turbo Jam, you also have access to their 24-hour help line. You can have live chats with Chalene and talk to others who are going through the same trials and tribulations you might encounter. This in itself can mean the difference between failure and success. If you need a pick me up, have a question, or just wish to talk to others who are using Turbo Jam, you can do it by accessing the 24-hour help line.

Our Conclusion

While Turbo Jam isn’t for everyone, it definitely is a good workout plan and worth the money. It’s a lot of work and you’ll have to show some perseverance in order to succeed, but if you want to seriously lose weight, get fitter and feel better about yourself, there really is no other way besides hard work to achieve that.

Come join the Turbo Jam phenomenon!

I love TJ! Ive had the DVD's for about 2 years, and when i was doing them faithfully, i saw good reslts. It really toned me up ALOT! My legs became firmer, and my arms got really toned ( i use the blue sculpting gloves with every workout) Im excited to start doing them faithfully again. I lOVE the fact i dont have to drive all the way to the gym, and I can do ALL the workout in the privacy of my own home! Then after im done i can just jump right in the shower, and dont have to drive all the way home. I LOVE TJ!

I Love Turbo Jam... I've been doing it since January 4th..I've lost 13 pounds and have lost inches.. I am having a bit of trouble out of my knees ( probly from old age 38) but they do offer low impact versions of the excercises by watching the designated people in the program. So when my knee starts acting up, I just switch to the lower impact excercise. Its fun, and It goes by really fast. I am planning to keep doing Turbo Jam untill I get to my ideal weight and have the beach body I've always wanted. Hopefully , that'll be by summer. I only have 20 more pounds to loose.
6. 1 month results
Written by frankie website, on 09-02-2010 22:04
After 1 month I had measurable results. While the scale didn't change much, I lost an inch each from my arms, legs, waist, and chest. The best thing is that I lost 3 inches from my hips! Like all exercise though, the more intensely and frequently you do it, the better your results will be. I just got more TurboJam videos for my collection. The most I do it, the more I love it. Turbo Jam is fun, and it works!

I bought turbo jam... after I had my 2nd Kid and it is amazing! I love the music and the workouts. They are sooo much fun. I love the turbo sculpt especially. As long as you are doing the turbo sculpt and the other works along with it. You WILL get into shape. I love the sweaty energized feeling I get when I am done with the workouts, I feel like I accomplished my goals.

I ordered Turbo Jam and am getting ready to start using it as soon as it arrives, however on one of the reviews I read that it isn't good for people with knee injuries. Can anyone tell me if there are modified movements for such issues? I have had one knee surgery and was told no high impact workouts. Please advise. Thanks!

I'm looking for a work-out to do in my "rest period" as I have almost completed my P90X 90 day work-out. I need something that is really going to challenge me because I'm in great shape due to the P90X! Do you have any suggestions on what would be the best program as I heard Turbo Jam is the best - but which one?
Please email.
Thank You

Turbo Jam is great! After doing even the 20 Minute Workout a few times, it gets easier and becomes more fun once you get the moves down. After doing the 20 Minute Workout and Learn and Burn for two days, I can button my size two shorts (which were REALLY tight before) without sucking in and having my legs squash out of the leg holes. I'm looking to lose twenty pounds, not 200, and it works great. I'm vegan, so I don't follow the diet plan, but I eat under 800 cals a day, no junk food, lots of water and do ab workouts in addition to TJ and it DOES WORK. You won't get fit by WATCHING the people on the video exercise, you have to try. You don't even have to do the moves perfectly- I break a sweat and I stop for water breaks and don't always kick at the right time. You're up and moving- that's what matters. It's definitely worth it.

I'm Darrin, Canadian Male 39yrs old.

Firstly, ignore the many "just got it, here's what its like" reviews - they're pointless. Most folk quit a workout routine like TJ within 4 months. If you're looking for long term results, only pay attention to reviews posted by those who've lived with the workouts long term - blowing $100 on a snap review is the last thing you want.

After using Turbo Jam daily for the past 7-8 months, here's my good, bad & ugly about the system:

The routines are between 30 to 55 minutes in length, the average being 40 minutes.

The good:

*Turbo Jam works as promised.
*There are plenty of discs to choose from - boredom isn't an excuse to not work out.
*Chalean is always positive.

The bad:

*The workouts are *very* dance oriented.
*The music is generic hip-hop/techno dance mixes.
*There are too many people on set vying for camera time. Really, too many people can be distracting.
*Some confused camera work - at times you'll want to see a change up and the camera is trained on one of the low-impact girls instead.
*I'd prefer Turbo Jam if the workouts were another 10-15 minutes longer than they are. I seem to be just getting a steam up and it's time to cool down.
*While there is always at least one Man on set, this workout is geared for & aimed squarely at Women. The opening music says it all: L-L-L-Ladies...

The ugly:

*The best workout DVDs allow you to turn off the music and workout with the instruction only. ie: You provide your own music. Turbo Jam doesn't give you the choice - it's Turbo Jam music or nothing. Sadly, muting the sound isn't an option - you rely heavily on Chalean's cues to transition to the next move. Turbo Jam allows you to "pump up" the music with certain discs. Not something I want in the first place.
*Since Turbo Jam is *so* dance oriented, choreography becomes an issue. If you're not much of a dancer, you'll find a fair-to-medium learning curve. I find myself doing each workout three days in a row - the first day to reacquaint myself with the moves, the second to get good and the third to give it 100%.
*Chelean has a habit of commenting on the music - she'll tell us how it's easy to workout with "great" music like that in the background, how "this" is her "favorite" song etc. - When you don't like the music and aren't given the choice to provide your own, it gets annoying in a hurry.

I rate Turbo Jam 7 out of 10.

If the workouts were 10 minutes longer and you had the option to silence the really, very generic music (my opinion), Turbo Jam would be unbeatable.

Too bad, maybe next time...
15. turbojam definitely works

So many people talk about their success on our forum and other forums, its not a hoax. It is all about actually doing the workouts, cut out most junk food and you will lose weight! Good luck!

Turbo Jam is available for Canadians on Amazon.ca or the Chapters/Indigo websites. There are 2 volumes, V1: Cardio Party & Ab Jam and V2: Learn & Burn, Turbo Sculpt, 20 minute workout for $16.99 each. Doesn't come with the extras (flashcards, sculpting gloves etc) but it's still a steal rather than paying US$59.95.

I just ordered mine and I can't wait for it!

Thanks for the great comments. Please do post in our turbo jam forum area. We'd love to see that area grow as large as our P90x group has.

I agree with Meredith whole-heartedly. TJ is so fun, its quick, it’s entertaining and it works. I don’t get bored when I do it. I got TJ because I wanted to stay in shape, and have fun while doing it. I'm only sixteen and while I’m not overweight in anyway, my habits were horrible. I ate, slept, and sit in front of my computer. I was putting on some weight, and working out at a gym, which I tried just wasn't working. I tried working out at home, I have bow flex in my basement, my dad uses that, and the Gazelle. I don’t use either of them. I have Billy Blanks Tae Bo videos; their intense but aren't fun. It was a struggle to motivate myself to go and do his workouts. But TJ I MUST say, I don’t have any of those problems. I get up in the morning and WANT to go do it, the video finishes and I’m like that’s IT?! Its so fun it doesn’t feel like a workout, I’ve been doing it for three months and I’ve lost, 25 pounds of unwanted fat. I’m not looking to lose weight, but after losing that weight, I’ve stayed at the same weight, and haven’t budged. My abs are tight and firm, I can see definition, my thighs are so stunning, and my arms don’t flab, I’m PROUD to wear a two-piece now, when I used to wear a t-shirt over it. I have a huge appetite and I'm not a healthy eater, but I SEE and feel results. Chalene Johnson is SO motivating its not even funny. She has fun when doing the video, she lightens the mood, she makes you smile, and keeps you going. One thing I don’t like is when the trainer is very serious; I don’t look forward to seeing a frown every time I want to burn calories. Chalene makes jokes that I can laugh to, and her music is great. I’m SIXTEEN, and I like it, I listen to everything from Metal to Rap, and I find it great. I even got my mom doing Turbo Jam, and she loves it too, she initially thought I was wasting money and told me to go run around the block, but now she does it with me. Another thing I love about TJ is that it doesn’t require millions of other workout equipment, I don’t want to go out and buy a step, medicine ball, etc, when I don’t need it for anything else and that’s money WASTED. TJ’s weighted gloves can be used in all videos, if the person wants to take the workout to a next level. TJ isn't a targeted for people who are trying to get an unbelievably intense workout, that are already in great shape and want to get more ripped, more muscle. In my opinion it's for people who want to JUST get in shape, have fun with it, be motivated, and look good. If you want to be unbelievably muscled then go to P90X. But in my opinion Turbo Jam is great, it works me out, challenges and pushes me, I have fun, and I see results. I wouldn't trade Turbo Jam for any workout video.

I recieved my Turbo Jam set in the mail on Saturday the 19th of July. I spent the next day doing the Learn & Burn. Last night I did the 20 minute workout and had such a blast that I started it over and did it again!!
I love Turbo Jam and I would highly recommend it without hesitation.
I also have a hard time with crunches on the floor. But after my 1st Turbo Jam workout, I can feel my abs (sore) and I didnt lie on the floor once yesterday.
Turbo Jam is definately worth it.
I'm 257 lbs and I'm already addicted to TJ. I usually have a hard time with my weight keeping up with workout DVD's. But TJ moves in such a way that I can get the full workout and I'm sweating like a pig when I'm done. WooHOO!
