When it comes to practicing yoga the benefits of yoga are clear. But, there are certain supplies that are needed in order to make those yoga classes run more smoothly and effectively. The benefits of yoga will be whole to the body no matter what tools you use, but making the event more enjoyable is the aim to keeping you active with your yoga experience. see also: 10 Weight Loss Yoga Methods, Yoga for better health, Top 7 Benefits of Yoga, Yoga or Pilates? and our other exercise tips and reviews .
Yoga Mat The yoga mat you choose for your yoga classes will help to make your yoga workout all the more beneficial to the body. The yoga mat needs to be slip proof and made of cotton or some other washable material. When sweating through your daily workout, you want to know you will be able to wash the yoga mat and go for the next yoga class.
Yoga mats will also be offered in various sizes and may be provided by the yoga studio. If using a public yoga studio mat, make sure to bring along some antibacterial spray to disinfect the yoga mat.
Yoga ShoesChoosing whether or not to wear shoes during your yoga workout will be a decision that will be made after a few of those first classes are under your belt. Some people choose a lightweight shoe in order to stop the foot from slipping on the yoga class floor. While others, those more experienced with the yoga poses, will often wear only skid proof protectors on their feet.
The use of shoes in a yoga studio may not be necessary, but shoes in the locker room is. No one should walk in the locker room of a gym without shoes for the health of their feet.
Yoga ClothingYoga is a stretching exercise that will take the body from one extreme position to the next. When practicing yoga poses, you will want to have the freedom to move from one pose to the next without the friction of normal fitness clothing. Yoga clothes are often made of spandex and cotton and allow the body to move easily while being thin enough to wick away the sweat and keep the body dry and comfortable.
Yoga clothing can be found online or in may fitness stores and will often cost no more than traditional workout clothing. Make sure to find pants that are comfortable and stretchy and tops that allow the body to move while no restricting that movement by being too large or bulky.
Yoga InstructorThe yoga instructor chosen for your yoga classes will be one of the most important choices. The yoga class will be taught on varying levels with each level gaining in difficulty. The yoga instructor must be able to work with you on a one on one basis while still teaching the class as a whole. The yoga instructor must also have the patience to work through any struggles you may be having with the different yoga poses.
Yoga instructors are not all crated equal. Some will only have the basic knowledge of yoga while others have a more advanced knowledge. It is important to find a certified yoga instructor within your home city. The certification process is in place to make sure the yoga instructor is training on the latest poses, as well as, the safety concerns surrounding yoga poses.
WaterNo matter the workout, water is essential to keeping the body hydrated while working those muscles. The muscles of the body need water to stay supple and stretching while working out with yoga. Sufficient water intake before the workout and after the workout will keep you healthy and able to hit that yoga mat again for the next class.
Depending on the level of your yoga workout, water can be supplemented with a fitness drink or workout water that will replace electrolytes in the body.
Yoga StudioThe yoga studio where your yoga instructor will teach the class needs to be big enough for all of the participants to stretch out and have enough space as to not feel restricted in their movements. Yoga classes and yoga poses are often about balance and when there is not enough space between participants, the uncomfortable nature of the surroundings will not allow the participant to gain the most benefit from the yoga experience.
Finding a yoga studio close to home or work can make it easier to fit the yoga workouts into your daily life and keep the activity moving from day to day.
Yoga MusicJust like any other workout, yoga requires just the right music to get in the mood. The yoga music chosen needs to be soft, yet exhilarating at the same time. The right style of music moves yoga classes from a yoga workout to an adventure.
When choosing yoga music, the style of music that works for you may not be the same that works for the instructor. Finding a yoga instructor that offers a style of music that is comfortable for you and makes you want to continue the workout is necessary to keep the yoga workout fun.
Yoga DVDsThere will be times when you will not be able to hit the yoga studio. During these times you will need to have some yoga dvds on hand to keep up the burn at home. These yoga dvds will range in difficulty from beginner to advanced, often in the same yoga dvd.
There are also many yoga classes that can be taught as a one on one basis in the home. These yoga classes are often much more expensive than the traditional yoga workouts, but allow the participant to learn the basics of yoga before moving into the yoga studio or yoga class environment.
The benefits of yoga on the body are a wonderful thing. Yoga can be practiced by everyone from the youngest of new fitness hopefuls to those that are older and trying to stay in shape. Yoga is a flexible option for fitness and allows the body and mind to come together as one in a workout setting.
