Learning about alternatives to typical abdominal workouts that use regular sit ups
and crunches will definitely help you on your goal of getting the great six pack abs and flat stomach . My preference is to provide you with choices for a
higher energy workout which will kick your metabolism into overdrive and
exercise all of your body, not just your abdominal section. This
creates a workout that will burn fat all over and strengthen your core
muscles much more effectively than the usual abdominal routine.
These three ab exercise routines are great for your abdominal muscles, yet
there are not traditional ab exercises. Leave us some comments at the end of the article and tell us how they worked for you!

Three Best Ab Workouts are:
- Ab Workout #1: Rebel Rows with Dumbbells
- Ab Workout #2: Barbell Front Squats Workout
- Ab Workout #3: Climb the Mountain (Floor position)
There are a couple of ways to approach the number of sets and repitions. You can do 5 sets with 5 repetitions or 3 to 4 sets with 8 repetitions. You can also do more sets with less repetitions and be just as effective. Also, you can do the Climb the Mountain workout for a specific time rather than for a number of repetitions. The key is don't do the same number of sets and repitions in each workout.
Here are pictures and instructions:
Rebel Rows with dumbbells are completed by assuming a pushup stance and placing your hands on the dumbbells. Use one arm to hold your self up and the other arm to row your dumbbell. Place the dumbbell back on the floor and change sides, using the opposite arm to support our body and the other arm to row. The action of supporting your body while rowing really works the entire abdominal region. Please believe... Your abdominal muscles are going to feel it!
For the squats, place your dumbbell resting on your shoulders in the front. This is like the back squat, but the dumbbell goes in front of your shoulders, instead of resting on your upper back area. Place your elbows in front of your body, cross your arms, and push your fists against the dumbbell bar to keep it stable on your shoulders.
You may want to check with the trainer at your gym for assistance with this. Keeping your form can be tricky but can be accomplished with practice. Your abdominal muscles are key in providing support strength while doing this squat. The weight of the barbell is constantly being shifted and your abs are doing the work. You'll be using your legs AND your abdominal muscles!!

Climbing the mountain is done as follows: Begin in pushup stance and then "run" your feet up and down with your knees in motion up under the chest area and then back to your starting stance. It's like you are a mountain climber, but you are doing it on the floor. A super version of this exercise includes moving your hands up and down along with your legs. You should move your hands ahead about 8 to 10 inches. This way more challenging than your regular Climbing the Mountain and gets your whole body in on the action.

You should plan 30 seconds of rest between each exercise. When you complete the three exercise set, you should rest for 1 or 2 minutes before starting again.
Although these exercises don't include regular crunches or sit ups you will really work your entire body and you WILL feel it in your abs! Give it a try and you will definitely believe me.
