Pilates is an exercise regime where you will achieve a well toned body as well as a relaxed mind. Aside from the regular Pilates exercises , there are additional equipments you could use and need to enhance your movements as well as comfort. They may require additional skills but they are all geared for a sound body and a sound mind.

Pilates Mat

A simple exercise mat that will protect your skin from the rugged floor and also provide comfort to the body while on lying exercises. It’s very affordable and common equipment you could use in a gym. Just make sure you have a thick Pilates Mat for better comfort. On the other hand, a Pilates Mat may not be necessary in some places since some studios already place specialized mat.

The Pilates ladder barrel is recommended for those who wanted to work on their back. Ideal for most ages and body type, a Pilates band is used to improve muscles and tone targeted parts of the body. They come in two types: tube and ribbon type of band. The disadvantage of the Pilates band is based on which band should be used. Those who are strong enough to hand tension should use tubes while beginners should use ribbons.

Usually made of flexible metal, the Pilates Magic Circle is used as a resistance tool to focus on muscle and improve strength. The disadvantage of a magic circle is that it’s not geared for stronger persons. Stronger persons will require stronger resistance and Pilates Magic Circle could easily break if they are forced to provide stronger resistance. Always look for a Magic Circle with a padding inside and outside for better comfort.

Pilates Cadillac

The Pilates Cadillac is one of the most efficient exercise machines. This equipment could be used to isolate any muscle for workout. By properly using the Pilates Cadillac, the right exercise and body strength could be used. It’s made up of a small bed, a “trapeze” wherein you use it to stretch your body. But even with its near perfection, the Cadillac has its limitations. Pilates Cadillac is very expensive and although there are versions of Cadillac that could be converted into a regular table, it will still take up a lot of space.

The Malibu Pilates Chair is a sturdy type of chair made of metal with a soft cushion on top. It’s a chair specifically designed for different types of Pilate’s exercises. The disadvantage of this product is it’s geared only for a specific type of Pilates workout. The price is often questionable since some information could be found online for free.

Peak Pilates Chair

Made of wood, Peak Pilates Chair has a simpler designed when compared with Malibu Pilates Chair. It’s not that foldable since only a small part (the hand rest) could be folded. However, Peak Pilates Chair has a beautiful design and each part has a specific purpose for a full body exercise. Peak Pilates Chair is also called Wunda Chair because at first glance, this type of chair looks deceivingly like a regular chair. But under the hands of an experienced Pilate’s instructor, this is a highly efficient chair for working out. The disadvantage of this chair is that it requires experience to properly use this Pilates Equipment.

Reformer

Reformer is an exercise machine geared for improving the biceps, stomach and legs. Pilates reformers will let you sit on a platform with you legs tied on the end of the equipment. Your hands will serve as guide as you hold to pull your body against the pull of the string at the other end of the equipment. It’s a full body exercise but will require an already established strength to properly operate the reformer. Some reformers will also be very cheap that it will only help in some parts of the body and not a total exercise.

Pilates Medicine Ball

Medicine balls come in different sizes, colors and weights. These are balls used for core exercises and different strength and upper body exercise. The weight of the ball will aid in exercise as it will serve as resistance to increase strength of the muscles. It’s also portable which means it could be used to target a specific muscle of the body. It only requires proper handling since medicine balls could get really heavy and will hurt anyone if they are not handled properly.

Pilates Exercise Ball

An exercise ball is an oversized ball that comes in different colors and sizes. It’s thick enough to withstand body pressure but thin enough to be manipulated by the body. The outer layer could be spiky or plain depending on the preferences of the user. It is already exercise equipment that could help the user in their core exercises and they are also used in most Pilates exercise classes. The only requirement is proper balance to ensure that the equipment is properly used.
