Amy, you\'re 5\'8\", weigh 134 lbs, and are concerned about your weight? Even if you have a tiny frame, that\'s a healthy weight, perhaps even a bit under normal.

Alright, didn\'t plan on posting, but felt I needed to add my  2 cents. First off, I have a degree in Exercise Physiology. I spent over 10 years in the fitness industry. I still teach fitness classes today and I am here to tell you: I don\'t know it all and I don\'t have all the answers. I used to be all against Weight Watchers but I found it is a great system - IF YOU FOLLOW IT! I recently purchased p90x because I agree with the muscle confusion philosophy and I believe the program will give you the results you want IF YOU FOLLOW IT. I plan on being one of the great testimonials at the end of 90 days. I will repost then.

As for anyone gaining weight \"out of nothing\" and they can\'t figure out why, I have help for you. Stop shoveling into your mouth! You cannot create matter from nothing. Eat less calories than you take in and matter is leave your body. Eat more than you take in and, you guessed it, matter will get added to your body. Yes folks, it IS that simple. Stop creating excuses and stop professing the impossible. If you gain weight, yeah it might be from muscle, but that muscle is getting creating only by extra calories to support is. Eating more often throughout the day does not mean you have to eat more calories. I am 6\'1\" and 200+lbs and I work out 5-6 days a week now and consume 2000 calories or less a day and I maintain my muscle. Get the point? I hope so. I wish everyone to succeed on this page but you all have got to stop making it so damn complicated, ITS NOT! Use your instincts and common sense and you\'ll be fine. Good Luck!

I followed the P90X diet alone, I am too lazy and busy to work out! So I worked it like this.... I Watched less TV, took more walks and ate lots of fruits and veggies. I typed in p90x grocery list into google and found that somebody had picked apart the recipes to make shoppinf and preparing many the p90x recipes easier. I worked that backwards. I took the list to the store bought the foods I knew I could use and simply followed the portion control approach. EXACTLY.  I took my lunch and two snacks to work everyday. Cooked at home for dinner and ate breakfast EVERYDAY. 30 days later. I went from 175 to 160! I feel great, have more energy and feel so much lighter! My roommate did the same thing. He also lost over 10lbs. Sweet deal!

I have been in the same situation. I found cutting out gluten containing foods and dairy was the key for me. It doesn\'t mean low carb. There are plenty of healthy carbs that are gluten free. When I cut gluten and dairy I lose weight fast and can exercise less. A great resource is \"the Gluten Connection\". Good luck.

Amy,

Your diet is the problem.  Believe it or not, you need to eat MORE in order to lose weight. The first thing you need to do is increase your calories! If you\'re truly eating only 1,000 calories/day, your body will most likely go into a \"storage\" mode. This is basically because the moment your body thinks its not getting enough food, it will horde all the calories and hold onto the fat since it thinks its going into starvation mode. Your body will also slow down your metabolism because it thinks a \"fasting state\" may be close and it will want to preserve as much energy as possible. This is done through holding tight onto the fat stores and not releasing them.  Eat more calories more often throughout the day.

1/20/10 14:58

Amy

M not sure if you were replying to me - I have a very strict eating plan/diet.  I eat anywhere from 1000 - 1200 calories/day depending on the workout.

HELP! Just purchased p90x DVD\'s and am very anxious to get started.  I don\'t have the calendar and all the extras and I\'m not sure of the schedule of how to do the workout.  I found some worksheets to track progress, but still don\'t understand where the aerobics, yoga, plyometrecs (sp?) fit in.  Can anyone help?

1/20/10 11:41

M

If you do not change your eating habits and permanently, you will never lose any weight. It does not matter how often you work out. You will be wasting your time. Do not spend hundreds of dollars on a workout DVD if you are not going to put 100% into it and make a lifestyle change. If you are gaining weight you need to look at what you are doing. YOU are not doing something right. It has nothing to do with the workout plan.

Derrick - I am just under 5\'8\" and now weight 134 :*(.  What type of body fat caliper do you recommend - there are a lot out there aren\'t there.  I know at the gym they have a body fat thing that you hold out in front of you and it measures based on height and weight but they told me it isn\'t very accurate.  I called my doc to see if they thought it could be my thyroid??

1/19/10 18:58

Derrick

Amy, have you ever considered that you gained muscle?  What is your diet, because you are definitely working out enough.  I would worry less about the scale and more about the mirror. Also you could consider buying a body fat caliper to measure body fat.  How tall are you and what do you weigh?

1/19/10 17:28

Amy

OK I have been done with the P90X program now for two weeks and got back into running and lifting weights trying to loose the weight that I had gained from doing P09X.  Never lost anything while doing this program and so frustrated that I cannot loose what I had gained - still actually gaining!!  Ugh anyone with any advice - I run anywhere from 3-7 Miles a day and also lift weights every other.  Why can I not shake this?

1/19/10 17:21

Fat Dude

I\'m on my 4th week of p90x and I actually gained 6 pounds (I was hoping to lose weight). I didn\'t follow the nutrition plan, that\'s probably why. I\'ve learned it\'s really all about diet.

I had p90x for some time now and must say that it is great. Yes, the price is a little pricey but it is much cheaper than going to the gym. I love the workout and feel great afterwards. Before I started I bought all the equipments before I stared from amazon which has allot of them used so get those before starting.

hi there.  i have a few questions:  i broke my knee and dislocated my kneecap 2 years ago and also pulled my MCL.  i\'m also knock-kneed.  i was a heavy kid growing up for as long as i can remember, until i lost 80 lbs.  that was 8 years ago.  now i\'m back up to 220.  i\'m 5\'2 and italian/german, so i have the thick legs and wide hips which helps me to keep weight on all sections of my body - mainly my core.  i know a lot about nutrition and fitness, and was \"addicted\" (in a good way) to working out (to a point).  i\'ve always loved working out, even tho i can\'t do a lot of things - which brings me to my first question:  my sports medicine doctor, as well as my knee surgeon and occupational health doctor, told me that i\'ve had arthritis in my knees - probably since i was little (my knees have always creaked and cracked while taking stairs), and now since my one knee has been re-aligned they told me i could never run, do stair-step workouts, lunges, or squats ever again.  they told me that once you loose your cartilage it\'s gone, and my knees are so bad already.  i was wondering if this workout system would be good for me?  i noticed a lot of lunges and squats, and positions where you have to sit on your knees, and i can\'t put  weight fully on my knees.  when i go to the gym i either walk the treadmill or do the elliptical.  i can only do the elliptical for a few minutes because of my knees.  due to college and studying i haven\'t been to the gym or worked out in awhile.  i know i must loose this extra weight, not for looks but for my health (and strength), but walking will take forever to loose these pounds.  i also lift, but again, i can only handle so much with my knees.   i have major mental and emotional motivation - i just need the physical.  i pep-talk myself everyday to workout and my body always refuses my mind.  i\'m only 29.  i have almost every workout product/machine/tape there is out there  (including both suzanne sommers\' thigh masters, the original buns of steel from the \'80s, and a metal rowing machine that was my parents\'), and they all work - but i was drawn to your tape because he talks to you straight thru the camera and motivates you without insulting you.  i used to have a personal trainer, but now there\'s no way i could afford one.  everyone says \"you lost it before, you can loose it again\", but i lost it unhealthily due to a very bad break up - i lost that 80lbs in 4 months and was lucky enough to keep it off for almost 4 years.  i know i need to loose it slow and healthily, so i don\'t think 90 days would be enough time for me, i was thinking more like a year, which brings me to my other question:  have any obese people used the P90X?  were they successful?  everyone on the commercial were already \"thinner\" and only needed to tone their bodies.  do us bigger people have to loose some weight first before we try this product?  thanx!

Chris

I\'m 17 years old and already in great shape from running competitively for 6 years. I\'m 5\'10\'\' and 130 pounds so my question is although I am in good shape will this help give me a \'cut\' look and help me improve in running. Also will it make me lose weight? because i definitely don\'t want to lose weight. $150 is a lot of money to waste on a product that might not work for me, so if someone could answer me ASAP i would be very thankful.

Plyometrics was impossible on the first couple of run throughs. I promise you will eventually be able to finish the CD though.

Corey, This works! I am not affiliated with beach body, I do not sell anything related to beach body, I am just a user of the product.  If you do it right, it will work, 110%!

kschimmer,

This program is not for building mass.  If all you want to do is build mass...eat a lot and lift heavy weights.  If you want to build lean muscle and get in great shape, this is for you.  For someone in your shoes, I would say that you need to follow the nutrition plan if you want to gain weight.  you may even want to eat more than the plan requires.  It is very important that you eat enough, but if you do, you will 100% gain lean muscle mass.  There are many before and after pics on the web of people who started very thin.

i just ordered p90x it looked like it would work from the ads on tv, but my question is will i gain weight from it i am a pretty slim guy i am 5\'8\" and weigh about 125 lbs its very hard for me to gain weight will this program help me gain weight and be cut all at the same time, because i know im not gonna be bulky cause im skinny. or is this program gonna make me loose weight cause if so i dont want it, can anyone answer this for me please

Cory,

Check out the p90x forum on this site. There are lots of users who have tried the program. Just read some of the postings.

alright Derrick I have been thinking about buying the p90x, I need your honest opinion is worth buying? I am interested in the idea of getting the p90x, but I need some personal opinions from regular individuals. Not opinions from people who have put effort into creating the product. All of the ad’s are not enough to convince me.

1/11/10 15:24

Derrick

Rick you couldn\'t be more wrong.  You have obviously not used P90X, otherwise you would not have left that comment.  Or maybe if by cookie cutter, you mean hard work, great exercise routines, a great nutrition guide then I guess it could be cookie cutter. :)  This routine is packed with exercises that will make you work HARD.  The routines are approx 1hr each, 6 days a week and each is at HIGH INTENSITY!

I loves too workout! Everyday when i get home i jump into my Workout clothes and start pumping iron! I love to have big arms, but I also loves Cheezeburgerz! So i have fat belly. Can P90X Help me turn my keg into a six pack? Can i still have my Cheezeburgerz? If i don\'t get Cheezeburgerz i get into Fight! I also need some self-discipline, can P90X Teach me the way? Wild Gym out.

Cookie cutter routines?? - What work outs do you recommend then? This workout is the best workout if you want to get ripped and in VERY good shape. Strength and conditioning has its place if you wish to gain mass.

P90x is another \"Cookie cutter routine\", try doing some real strenght and conditioning.

I really need help. I am 51 and am looking for something and some accountability to help me lose weight.  Is this the answer?  I weigh a whopping 225ish and am 5\'3\".  I am miserable.  Is this the answer?

I can\'t wait to start this program! I\'m 6\'0\"/185 lbs at about 9% body fat and this program is just what i am looking for. I have been lifting weights and been on a strict diet for the last 3 years. Starting at 153 to 185 and being pretty ripped. Unfortunately, I have plateau\'d in the gym and on the track. My gains are small and hopefully P90X will help to give me that fresh pump and feeling of accomplishment i am looking for. To anyone out there confused on what makes the biggest difference in getting big and fit takes, this is it. DIET, sleep, low stress, VARIETY, and CONSISTENCY. If you want to gain muscle, EAT! Simple as that. As soon as i changed the diet around and worked out for LESS time but MORE INTENSE, The pounds started coming on. I have heard but nothing but good things about this program. Now that I am past the bulking stage, let\'s see what 90 days on this can do. :)

P90X is great because of the muscle confusion component.  Thanks for posting!

I order P90x through beach body about a week ago and am gettin it in today and i was just reading over some of the reviews and instructions because i am very excited to get started. I have been active in sports all my life an dlast spring i just quit football and havnt lifted wights or ran since then. but i am not as much considnered about the phyical aspect as much as the eating aspect because weight has always been a problem for me. i am curretly 175 and about 5\"8. i am in high school college and have a job so i need a eating plan that is very flexiable because i dont have time or access to cookin my foods myself. i basically need some help settin up a good plan for me and was wonder if anyone would help. Thanks eamil: biglsuboi@yahoo.com

I know a lot of people on here seem to have done P90x before I\'m wondering if it\'s good for someone extremely obese. My friend who does P90x said that I shouldn\'t try it until I\'ve lost some weight. But I thought that was the whole premise of the program. I\'m 320, 5\'10.

Thanks anyone.

1/4/10 18:48

P90X + has five new routines that you mix into the original P90X.  It\'s definitely something you should consider as a logical \"next step\".  I\'m on round 2 of P90X.  It\'s a great program.  Six days a week.  Modified moves for those not already in decent shape.  Although if you are not already in decent shape I would recommend the original P90 or the P90 Master Series first.  THEN X. As stated earlier this is not really a weight loss program although there is the \"lean\" version where you do more cardio and less resistance.  I can\'t say enough about P90X.  It\'s not \"cheap\" but why go cheap when it\'s your health at stake?  One last thing, for those who have \"graduated\" and want something else, but still intense, Tony has a monthly series of \"one on one\" DVD\'s.  Each month is something different and very intense.  You can subscribe and get the monthly DVD or just pick the ones you want.
