ChaLEAN Extreme Fitness System Review

Introduction to ChaLEAN Extreme

ChaLEAN Extreme

The ChaLEAN Extreme Fitness System is not your ordinary system and this much is easily apparent from the moment you visit their website. Created btinyy a woman named Chalene Johnson, it professes to bust all of the fitness myths that you have ever come across and give you the real treatments that you will need in order to be successful with your weight loss goals.

According to the ChaLEAN Extreme Fitness System, there are two major myths involved with the exercise industry today that harm more people than they actually help. The first of these two myths is that cardio work is the most effective solution for people that would like to burn fat . According to Johnson, this is a complete myth. She states early on that creating muscle is the best way to burn fat and looking at her trim figure on the first page should illustrate that point in startling clarity to you from the moment you log onto the website.

The second myth that Johnson singles out on page one of her website is that the only end result from lifting heavy weights is that your body will become bulky from the large muscles. According to Johnson however, since muscles can help you burn fat, you actually become lean through lifting weights because you are gaining lean muscle that at the same time is helping you get rid of more fat. According to Johnson, the type of weight lifting exercises you will do in ChaLEAN Extreme will help you lose weight and maintain a trim figure in no time flat. The Good Things about ChaLEAN Extreme

The main positive item that can be brought to your attention regarding the ChaLEAN Extreme Fitness System is that it is based on facts that health scientists have known for years. When you create more muscle mass in the body, you are creating conditions within your body that breed a faster metabolic system. This faster metabolic system burns through calories a lot quicker and that is where the weight loss aspect of the system comes into play. If you were walking or jogging you would have to go a long way in order to lose the same amount of calories from your system that you can lose through the performance of a good heavy weight lifting workout. And once you have completed the workout, the muscles you gain will continue to burn fat for you because your metabolism will be maintained in high form through successive workouts that you complete. Overall, the theory behind the system is quite sound.

Another good thing about ChaLEAN Extreme is that it comes with a lot of support. Not only do you get a wealth of information on the actual three phases of the circuit workout that forms the core of your weight loss training, but you also get a lot of information about how to diet in a way that will contribute to your weight loss success rather than hinder it. The customer support line on ChaLEAN Extreme is also quite impressive, allowing you to get a lot of information about the product before you actually have to order it.  We also recommend using our weigh loss and fitness forum for support.

The Bad Things about ChaLEAN Extreme

There are not that many bad things that can be said about ChaLEAN Extreme. Perhaps the most obvious one will occur to you once you have had the time to browse through the website for a few minutes. It all seems good and as previously mentioned the theory behind the workout is sound, but at the same time the website reads more like a marketing website than a health website. The testimonials seem overeager and while that can certainly be evidence of a product that works extremely well, it can also be the sign of internet marketing at its most convincing. People that have tried other online weight loss programs only to see them fall short of achieving the results promised on the main page of the website will recognize the tone on this website and that in turn might lead to them having second thoughts about actually making the purchase. This is really more cosmetic than substantive however and should not form the basis for you rejecting ChaLEAN Extreme should you choose to do so.

Another disadvantage of this product is that it involves lifting heavy weights pretty much right off the bat. Heavy weight lifting is the hardest weight loss activity to do well because the line between creating tension for muscle building purposes and hurting yourself physically is a very fine one. Even with the best instructions it is possible to mess up. There is nothing that can be done with this disadvantage however as it is inherent to the nature of the workout type advertised. Be sure to acknowledge at the same time that the extra effort comes with extra reward before you reject this one outright.

ChaLEAN Extreme Results and Conclusion

ChaLEAN Extreme has not been out on the market very long, but already there are some positive results coming in about the product. People that were highly suspicious about the idea of weight training have now become its biggest proponents as they have slowly seen what the system has done for them. Any product that has the ability to take a completely pessimistic person and turn them into an avid believer has to be good and the fact that ChaLEAN Extreme has done this multiple times over in such a short time means that it is most definitely one of the more special weight loss products currently available in the online weight loss market.

Weight loss is ultimately a result-based industry. At the end of the day, nothing else matters. You can have a product that looks bad and is sold bad but as long as it works, nobody will really care. On the other hand, you can have a product like ChaLEAN Extreme that looks good and is sold with full customer support that also works and once again it is likely that few people will really care. The bottom line is that ChaLEAN Extreme works and it works well as long as you follow the instructions to the letter. Everything else is just window dressing. It is attractive window dressing to be sure, but in the end it is just icing on the cake of success that is the ChaLEAN Extreme Fitness System.

1. I feel beginners can do this. We have my daughter, that is 16 and competes and weight lifting for our state and she does it and then we have me that is just the average lady at the gym that doesn't know what i am doing that does it with lighter weights and then i have my 12 year old daughter that does it with no weights. A beginner can do it with no weights for sure and pause. Then after awhile add weights. My 13 years old did it with no weight the first time around, second time she added weights! :) :)
2. Beginners may not be ready for Chalean Extreme right off the bat. Slim In 6 is a great introductory program for most people to learn moves and get some basics under their belt - while still getting great results! So, typically ladies like to start with Slim In 6, then Chalean Extreme (or P90X), and then either Insanity or TurboFire. Doing a program you are not ready for tends to be discouraging and, we at Beachbody do not want that! Find a great Coach, learn the basics, and know that you CAN achieve them!
3. I feel your pain. It is hard to do TurboFire without building up to it. This is done using TurboJam! This is great to learn from, and when you are ready you can tackle TurboFire!
4. When you finish a program, definately consider starting it over and doing it again. Saves money and you already know the moves. Otherwise, seek a different program to keep things changing and fresh. After CE, a great choice is TurboJam or TurboFire which is cardio. That'll change things up!
5. I just completed week 1 of the Push Phase. Up until now I had been losing at least a 1.5 lbs a week. I have been keeping my calories between 1400 & 1500 a day. I haven't gone off my diet at all and yet I did not lose anything after the first week of push. Is it normal to plateau after just doing the program for one month?
6. I started in Feb and lost 30 lbs. But, i still need to lose another 40 lbs. Do I start all over or do I stick with the lean for life ? OR do I need to buy a new program?
7. Hello everyone, I'm thinking of starting the Chalean Extreme program but I have a few questions about it. First, how heavy should the wheights be? I'll start with the lowest ones (i presume) but how do I know when to increase? Second, won't this training make me buff? My aim is to be slim and have lean muscles, not big ones. Should I worry about that? Chalean has a great body but that's not really what i'm hoping for. I'd like a much slimmer and athletic form (sort of like marathon runners). Thank you very much for your help and good luck to you all! Anca
8. I purchased turbo fire but I am disappointed with it. I am wondering if this would be a better choice. There is a lot of bouncing in TF and it is tough on the knees. Chalene doesn't give advice on form and they hardly show the person modifying. The new to class section is way too fast. Have peple found CE to have similiar problems? How much kickboxing is involved with CE?
9. I have tried everything from running on the treadmill, cycling, Tae Bo, to a plethora of other aerobic videos. I realized most of the time, I was focused on memorizing the work out routines rather than putting effort into the moves I was doing at the time. Therefore-- I decided I HATED work out videos. They were too complicated and I could never keep up. Recently, I got off my anxiety medication which I took for 4 years. During this time span, I gained approximately 40 pounds. Once I got off the meds, I was DETERMINED to buckle down and get my health and body back. A friend suggested ChaLEAN Extreme and it has been SO AMAZING!!!! The pace is steady, yet intense. I'm able to keep up and work out really hard without getting behind. I never would have thought that weight lifting would be as efficient as it is! I have always heard that only aerobic-based programs produce weight loss results. I was so wrong! I've lost an average of 2-3 lbs a week... a very healthy and consistent pace!!! I can't rave enough!!!
10. I am on Day 38 of the program (week 2 of the Burn Phase). I think this program is great and I'm getting stronger everyday. And using resistance bands is a nice change of pace from the weights. And Chalene also has two people in her video doing the low-impact version of the exercises as well. So if you can't keep up with Chalene, you follow the other two ladies.
11. While i agree the website and infomercials can be off-putting, as they seem too good to be true and gimmicky, the results are real and FROM the product itself.....i have met several people from various Beachbody videos(makers of Chalean Extreme) and they use real people using the products. I myself have lost 14 pounds strictly from chalean and watching what i eat and another 10 pounds from Shakeology (beachbody meal replacement). I am now a "coach" because of my results as i wanted others to know if i could do it they could do it. i am 32 and have dealt with fibromyalgia since a young teen and this was do-able for me! always check with your doctor if u have any issues though as a precaution. But to get to the part i dont agree with: ..."Another disadvantage of this product is that it involves lifting heavy weights pretty much right off the bat"... The point is to go as heavy AS U CAN...as much that u can do in only about 10 reps! i started with 3 and 5 pound weights and increased to 10 eventually. Chalene Johnson has been training for years and suggests not trying to keep up with her but do as much as u can while maintaining perfect form and reach failure (u cant do another) by the time u are at the designated reps. it takes a minute to see what weight you should use but it comes with a worksheet to track so you know what to use next time. i just dont want people getting turned off since it is highly do-able workout for 30 min! and so effective. it has changed my body and my life!
12. I would highly recommend the chalean xtreme to those who are starting out or regulars looking for a little change. Yes its true that she asks for heavier weights but heavy doesn't mean you start with 50lbs in your first circuit. The idea is to use what's heavy to you and then increase the weight as you get stronger. Also, i love that she only uses 10-12 reps per exercise, on the face it doesn't sound much but when you're using the correct weight it gives you the results. I found after the first couple of workouts that I wasn't sweating much during the strength training portion and that was simply because i wasn't using a heavier enough weight for me. I have been with this program for 5 weeks and I see tone and definition. I would recommend this for those who want to do p90X. I tried p90x before this one and i could only do about 35 mins. Since last week, i've done two p90x dvds w/o slowing down or stopping :) I will continue with the chalean program because i am loving the results. Definitely try it, you won't be disappointed.
13. I tried slim n six and found them impossible in my current fitness level to complete even the first disk. Too many lunges... would this be a good place to start? Is this too hard for some one fairly out of shape?
14. The Chalean Extreme program is amazing....I almost hate having the two days off!! She is a great motivator, and the program has given me results that I have been looking for since my son was born 4 years ago. Amazing!
15. My name is Jeffery Bradley, 46 years old and weight about 200 lbs. Just perfect for my frame. I did the P90X last year with awesome results. After about 3 months of 1 to 1 1/2 hours I got burned out on the routines. Yes I got ripped but it was wearing my body out. So I stopped for about 3 months and guess what ... gained about 20 lbs. Decided to try Chalean because I was having problems with my back and I did want to do rigorous P90X again. You would not believe how fast I lost weight and change my body structure in less than 30 minutes a day. Chalean is amazing, funny, exciting, and makes you want to do all the exercises. I've completed the program but continue to mix up the routines. This is the best part of the program ... there's never ever a dull moment when you do it right. So all you guys out there who think this is for wussies, you are idiots in thinking you have to kill your body to get great results. I get compliments everywhere I go and when people ask what I do .. I tell them Chalean ... they say I thought is was just for chicks ... it's for everybody ... this is a solid, not gimmicks, quick way to get the results you want in a fun exciting way.
16. Well thanks for the review.Seems a good one and i hope it will work for me. Nick
17. I have had the program since it came out. I have had tremendous results in the shoulders, arms and abs. I also mix it up with cardio and Turbo Jam. I have weights from 3-20lbs and a set of resistance bands. I much prefer my weights. However, you must take care when lifting and work up slowly to the next weight by following the program. This program has only taken me so far and now, I am moving to P90X. I think this is an excellent program for moderate exercisers and people just starting out. I am able to eat almost anything and never fluctuate more than 2-3 lbs. I am 49 :) The workouts are shorter and anybody should be able to fit in 35 minutes!
18. I just ordered it and I am waiting for it to come in the mail. So..this really works? I gained 35 pounds in 6 months.. I got married and I thought I could eat what I want. DO you think I will be able to lose at least 30 pounds? What size weights should I use?
19. In the review it was stated that one of the disadvantages of this workout was the use of heavy weights... THIS IS NOT TRUE! I've been using this workout for a couple of weeks and I'm using the resistant bands instead of the weights and it's giving me quite the workout. The resistant bands can give you the same workout as the weights. On that note: you can use any size weight that's comfortable for you - she states this in the video... so don't let this statement scare you from trying this workout.
20. So my co-worker decided to purchase this and I said that I was going to do it with her but I got side tracked and forgot to order. This was probably due to the fact that subconsciously I was skeptical. I'm kicking myself in the butt for not ordering it sooner because its been 3 weeks since she's had it not sticking to the diet because she just wants to tone up and just doing the workouts and let me tell you this girl had no muscle whatsoever and now her arms and abs are toned and defined and look nice. I'm going to be following the whole program so I can only imagine the results I will see since I'm going to be following the nutrition and fitness plan. I think that everyone should try this system especially if you can't make it to the gym like me. I just ordered mine today and I can't wait to start it.
21. I just got Chalean extreme and I tried the circuit 1 last night. Love it, but it was a little too short. Questions for you? I haven't listened to CD audio yet,so I couldn't find a guideline for the schedule. For exampple, week 1 day1 day 2... what should I do to have a right result? Would you guide me? Thanks Sarah
22. I know someone that is close to me that I really care about and it makes me worried of his weight at his age. He is only 16 and he stopped weighting himself after he got to 300 pounds bc no scale will go past that and that was over 6 months ago. I was just wondering from everyone would this work for him or would he feel overwhelmed??? Thank you everyone
23. Does anyone know how many calories you burn from the chalean extreme program workouts? I ust started the Burn phase and I want to know how many calories I am burning to be sure my diet is correct. Thanks!
24.
Okay...so I seen the infomercial, checked out the web site, and been thinking on this long and hard. I got hurt on the job at 18-lower back L4,L5,S1..Left Shoulder-something they called a G2 torn tissue...and left knee injury-a pulled ligament...any how I'm not a doc..that's just what they told me...but yeah, I had a good regimen that I used to do prior to the accident, now I have a hard time. I am now 32, soon to bee 33, and I am really out of shape..I can't take it any more...I'm not on meds, and did no surgeries, so my tolerance level is kinda high, but I am wondering if it is too extreme of a workout that I may actually lose my money 'cause I won't be able to utilize the product as it should be???
Khrysaliss, I would start by asking your DOC about working out and see what recommendations they have for you before you start any fitness program, if you do decide to start ChaLEAN Extreme start slow and with light weights to make sure you do not aggravate your previous injury. If you feel any kind of specific discomfort in the area that was injured stop and reevaluate if the program is right for you. There are lots of other ways you can start building strength without the heavy weight lifting. For you it might be better to start off with a less heavy workout like Yoga. Yoga actually builds a lot of strength and is impact free. Yoga will also help you to trigger stability muscles that are used to help keep your body and spine inline. Start easy and slow do not rush into any program and listen to your body, if you feel any pain or tweaks at all stop and do not push yourself. If you need further help feel free to message me I would love to help you out. Chris R
25. I am on week 4 of Burn Phase and I have to say that I lovet his program so far. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone..and I have!
26. most people I know have done a few complete rounds of a particular program to get the "results advertised" so with that in mind, I will keep plugging away. I love CE but during the Ab Burner video, I've noticed she does not have the best abs as she did in Turbo Jam, definitely some noticeable bulges showing. Maybe that's why she wears a shirt instead of a sports bra as her sister does so as not to show her abs. I'm really surprised - but still love it.
27. This is an amazing program, highly recommended if you're willing to put the effort into following the workouts.

29. Chalene is very encouraging and offers lots of advice, motivation and tips throughout the workout.
30. Ok, I'm on phase 3 of this workout program and all I can say is I love it!!!! I love Chalene Johnson and I did her Turbo Jam workout for quite some time before switching over to Chalean Extreme (however I still Turbo it up a bit when I feel like an awesome cardio workout!!!). For all you people who haven't been seeing results in the first few weeks...relax and keep going. I didn't see too many results in the fisrt or second pahse wither (except for the getting stronger part). But now that I am in the second week of the thrid phase, I am starting to see results!!!! I've lost 7 lbs in the past two weeks and about 8 inches over all. I am seeing the muscles in my arms start to be defined and my abs muscles are starting to show. I'm super exicted for the 3rd and 4th week. So if you are discouraged right now, don't be. Take a deep breath, suck it up and keep going. YOU WILL SEE RESULTS!!!!
31. I was told about this workout from a friend...I mentioned that I was going to try P90X. She suggested this because it is for women. I saw one review stating that she did not like this because it was "cheerleader like". I never saw a commerical or anything...is it dancey-girly? I hate when I get a new program and they swear it isn't dancey and it is! Should I just stay with P90X?
32. I'm in the Burn Phase week three. I've done the turbo jam workouts and really like them but sometimes I don't want to get so hyper. I decided to try her Get on the Ball workouts at the beginning of April and really took my diet more serious. I lost 10lbs by months end. I decided to get the Chalean Extreme and I'm on week three and I've lost an additional 4lbs even though I have been very bad and had alcoholic drinks almost weekly and have eaten out a couple times. I love the challenge, her engery and motivation. She makes me want to do that last rep. My body is seriously looking good. I was sore for the first week and well into my second but then just feel great. Good luck I highly recommend.
33. Trista, It depends on your experience. I would get the bands if you are just a beginner. If you've worked out a lot before then get a few sets of light dumbbells. It's all about progress.
34. Ok, I saw the late night infomercial and was intrigued. I think the system is pretty self-explanatory except for the weight amounts. Obviously, buying several sets of dumbbells or the bowflex weights are an added expense not included. How many sets of weights will I need? In what amounts? I noticed Beachbody offers a deluxe upgrade with resistance bands. Has anybody uses these? Are the bands as effective as free weights? Which will get better results: bands or real weights?
35. For those of you that do not have the workout plan or guide, shoot me a message I will send them to you. Chris R
36. I am in the Push Phase and have already lost five pounds and I feel amazing. People have noticed the change. I've done Turbo Jam for years but the Chalene Extreme weight and strength training has really made the difference. I can't wait til the 90 days is complete to see how much I will have changed by then! I'm much stronger. I gained a bit of weight at first, but then I really watched my portion control. The only thing that bothers me about the tapes is listening to Skip's non-stop sighing and random commenting.
37. the first 30 days you follow this weekly schedule: 1. Burn Circuit 1 ( less than 40 minutes Strength Training - I usually add 20 - 30 minutes cardio after) 2. Rest ( i usually do cardio and an ab workout here) 3. Burn Circuit 2 (different workout but same structure as day 1) 4. Burn Intervals and Ab Burner (VERY light weights used with lots of reps for "muscle endurance" and the ab workout is adequate, about 60 minutes total) 5. Burn Circuit 3 (different workout, but structure same as day 1 and 2) 6. Burn it off and Recharge (Burn it off is about 30 minutes of cardio/strength, no weights needed. Recharge is a stretching workout, but I'm thinking of switching it up with a yoga DVD that I like. 7. Rest (Again, I do light Cardio and an ab workout on rest days) You repeat this 7 day circuit for 4 weeks and then you go the other phases, but they follow the same pattern. Two more phases, 4 weeks each, same 7 days pattern. Hope this helps!
38. light weights.. nothing else needed really. does anyone have the schedule i do the workouts in?
39. What Type of Weights and Other Workout Props Should I Purchase Chalene's Program?
40. I been using the program for 6 weeks now and it dose work but I find Chalean to be very annoying. She is too much of a high school cheerleader type for me. I also use turbo Jam and enjoy it a lot. A fitness program that I am currently excited about is the Lean Body program by Bogumil Gizewski. www.leanbodyiq.com
41. I've used ChaLean Extreme, following the workout schedule and using the recommended diet, for two weeks. Although I've only lost 1.5 lbs., my body fat is down 3%! Being over 50 has brought it's challenges, but I love this program and am seeing results. It's not just weight-loss, but fat loss -- I am seeing my clothes getting loose. It is just a matter of time when the scale will drop as well.
42. I see we are starting to get a lot of questions about chalean extreme so we have opened up a chalean extreme forum area and encourage you to post your questions there. I can respond more effectively there and other users of chalean extreme can as well. In addition it will be easier for those new to chalean to follow the Q&A of you ground breakers. chalean extreme forum
43. nformation about me: 28, 5'4, 180, really sore knees and bad lower back First let me say that this workout is squat and lunge intensive, but chances are you have bad knees because either an injury or you are carrying too much weight. Mine is a combo, my knees started getting sore so I didn't work out as hard so I put on more weight and then my knees became WORSE. Yet, Chaleane keeps reminding you about proper form and if you do the exercises with proper form you'll feel the burn in your thighs and butt and NOT pain in your knees! Don't confuse the two!!! :o) I gained about 20 pounds over the past 18 months. Prior to that I was working with P90X and loved the variety and challenge, I was in better shape. The past 18 months I had a pulled hamstring, bad break up, and started a new career, so I was emotionally eating and losing muscle. I tried to get back into P90X but it was too difficult because of the length of the workouts and the exercises were too challenging, I could tell I wasn't as strong as I used to be so I was VERY discouraged. I started researching ChaLEAN Extreme and found that the actual workouts were shorter than P90X. That was very appealing so I purchased and eagerly awaited the arrival. My review: I LOVE these workouts. I love to lift weights and I love to feel strong. I'm keeping track of my progress in a separate spiral, they really don't give you a sufficient training guide to track on your own. I love that the workouts are about 9 exercises each and less than 45 minutes for weight training. There are 2 workouts (out of the 5 a week) where you will need about an hour to complete and more cardio ability. I haven't weighed myself yet because I haven't been following a strict eating plan, I'm just trying to ADD more fruits and vegetables and SUBTRACT alcohol and fried foods. I hope this review helps or gives some guidance. I know that I was looking for advice when I was contemplating my purchase and I'm very happy. I understand there isn't a magic pill it just takes finding something you really like and the time and desire to do it. GOOD LUCK!!! null
44. Ok, I've been following the workout schedule EXACTLY (except for 1 day) for almost 3 weeks. Am also adding extra cardio 1 or 2 days a week. I've seen SOME (very little ) "tightening" but no weight loss - help????!!! I LOVE the workouts - the time flies and I feel great about how strong I am. But I'm starting to get way too frustrated!!! Thoughts? Advice? I just bout selectech weights about 10 days ago so just start going up to about 15/17 pounds max...
45. Phoebe, ChaLEAN will definitely work as long as you stick to their schedule. The beachbody products in general are all very successful. Perhaps you'd be happier with slim in 6 (review on this site) or turbo jam. ChaLEAN is a lot of heavier weights, is that what you want?
46. Hi, I need some honest advice. I just watched the infomercial, but like all the other infomercials...it's very convincing!! I've purchased items from infomercials in the past and I was disappointed. I need to loose weight as well as tone and right now, the gym is just way too expensive. Is this a good program? Will it work or is it another gimmick?
47. Beach body has done an awesome job with the packaging of this product. The dvds are enclosed in a four fold folder. It is only card board, but it is still very well done. With fourteen actual workouts along with a serious kick butt motivational dvd and band basics/kitchen makeover dvd. beachbody counts one of those as dvd #15 which is unfair because its not actually a workout. Chalene is very encouraging and offers lots of advice, motivation and tips throughout the workout. She has a different mood when compared to her turbo jam workouts. It is all about being serious and get to business in this fitness series. There are 2 books (yes actual books) that come with the system. The first book is about nutrition and has lots of recipes for you to try. She talks about adjusting your food/caloric intake with each phase in order to fuel your body the right way. The 2nd book talks about the system. You use this to track and follow your rotation and progress through the entire process. Also included are worksheets you can xerox or you can print them out from beachbody.com As with all beach body products, the production is professionally done. The highlight of the workouts are that they focus on completely different muscle groups using heavier weights then you are used to. The repetitions are less and the weight is heavy. The exercise moves are effective. Chalean Extreme is the most expensive system that I own and I'm not the least bit sorry I bought it.
48. anyone have the workout schedule for this? you kno which days to do what workouts?
49. Yes, there are tons of squats and lunges. They're incorporated into many of the weight-lifting exercises.
50. I have knees that have seen many years of basketball and aerobics. Does the have copius squats and lunges?
