8 Tips on How to Jumpstart your Fitness Plan

Want to know how to jumpstart your workouts? Incorporate into your fitness plan these 8 simple tips.  You likely already know that you need to exercise and diet to get rid of unwanted body fat , lose weight and be healthier.  There is simply no way around it.  In order for your body to function the best it can, you must incorporate exercise into your daily routine.  You must incorporate a fitness plan that is a part of your every day routine.  Here are 8 tips to help you jumpstart your fitness plan:

Tip #1 - Set Goals

Creating new challenges is imperative to keeping you motivated.  Motivation is critical if you are to ever get up off that couch and move.  When you set your fitness goals, you need to be realistic.  If you make a goal that is impossible or extremely difficult to make, you will get discouraged and possibly quit all together.

Break your goals up.  Create a list for short term goals and one for long term goals.  An example of a short term goal is to run a small race in 6 months, while a long term goal is to run a marathon within 18 months.  Having a long term goal will keep you moving towards that goal once your short term goals have been met.

Tip #2 – Schedule Exercise into your Daily Routine

Treat your exercise routine as if it is an appointment that must be kept.  Your exercise is just as important as that business meeting.  In fact, your exercise routine is more important, as it contributes to your health, allowing you to be around for those business meetings.   Schedule other activities around your exercise routine, rather than the other way around.

Tip #3 – Commit

Commitment is sometimes very difficult.  It is usually easier to let that scheduled exercise slide, “just this once.”  Before you know it, you will be missing all those scheduled workouts.  Stick to your routine.  Make that commitment to exercise so you can live a healthier and happier life.

Tip #4 – Workout with a Friend

Exercising with a friend is quite possibly the best motivation tool you can have.  When you exercise with a friend, you are not only encouraged to keep moving, but you can make exercise fun.  Making your routine fun is the key to continuing your exercise routine faithfully.

Tip #5 – Get the right Gear

Having the right workout gear is important.  The right gear will help you to feel more comfortable, as well as reduce your risk of injury.  For example if you want to do Yoga, which is one of our favorites and have a list of the top 10 yoga dvd's we have done , you need to know what yoga equipment will maximize your enjoyment, comfort and ability to workout hardest.  For many other workouts you must have shoes that fit properly and clothing that is appropriate for the activities you are doing.  Make sure you have other equipment you may need, such as dumbbell weights , a fitness ball , or resistance bands.

Tip #6 – Create an Exercise Routine that you can Enjoy

There are so many different ways to incorporate exercise into your life.  Whether you choose to go to a gym, exercise to a DVD in your home , dance around, play soccer, or go for a walk, it is important that you find an exercise routine that you enjoy.   Remember, the exercise routine that you choose should help you to reach your goals; however, this does not mean you cannot have fun while you are striving to reach these goals.

Tip #7 – Add Music into your Routine

Music is an instant motivator.  It helps you pass the time and can give you the strength to keep moving.   Consider making up your own CD with music that will coincide with your workout routine or workout to an existing music based dvd such as zumba fitness or turbo jam .  Your workout CD should contain enough songs to get you through your workout.  Be sure to include slower songs for the warm up and cool down section of your workout

Tip #8 - Diversify your Workout

One of the main reasons why people will quit an exercise workout is because of boredom.  Doing the same thing every single time you work out can take a toll on you.  When you are creating your fitness plan, think of different things you can do to incorporate exercise into your day or use an existing workout program like the p90x workout that has 12 different routines .

You can create a list that has something different on each day.  For example, on Monday, you could turn on some music and dance.  On Tuesday, you could lift weights.  On Wednesday, you could play a sport with friends, etc.  The idea is to come up with many different ways to get your heart pumping without doing the same thing every single day.

These tips to jumpstart your fitness plan will help you create a plan that is right for you.
