Overview The Pepsi Company has long been in the energy drink line with it’s Mountain Dew soft drink brand, but now just as the AMP line will give you that extra energy, so has PepsiCo given the product line an energy infusion with the AMP Energy Drink variations. AMP Energy is fast becoming a major contender in the energy drink market, which really comes as no surprise. See our other energy drink reviews and energy drink faq.
AMP Energy IngredientsThere are six flavors to choose from and three sizes available: the 8.3 oz (Regular), 16 fl. Oz (TallBoy), and 24 fl. oz (Big Rig). There are a number of flavors to choose from. The basic ingredients in the AMP energy drinks are: caffeine, taurine, B vitamins, L-carnitine, guarana, and maltodextrin.
Caffeine has long been acknowledged as a stimultant and thermogenic substance that will help keep you awake and alert if taken in moderation. Taurine, on the other hand, is needed for the proper function of skeletal muscles. B vitamins are essential for cell metabolism, help maintain healthy skin and muscle; strengthen the immune system, promote cell growth and division and even help prevent pancreatic cancer. L-carnitine is a fat burner. What more can a person ask for from an energy drink?
AMP Energy Flavors The drink comes in two categories of flavor, fruit and tea (but the latter does have a bit of fruit flavor too) and with exciting names like Traction, Elevate, Relaunch and Energy Lighting, and plain old descriptive names like Black Tea And Green Tea . The drinks are also carbonated.
If you want a bit of nostalgia along with your energy fix, the “Energy Lighting” variety is the one to reach for. It tastes just like “Mountain Dew”, and those who have come to know and love this lemon-lime flavored drink, Energy Lighting will not only give your memory a jog, it will wake up other parts of you as well.
The “tea” flavors are the Black Tea and Green Tea variety. The former has the more tea-like taste and more of the caffeine punch. Both have a hint of lemon going on (more so with the green tea flavor), and it is a lot like drinking carbonated iced tea.
The “fruit” varieties are the Elevate, Relaunch and the Traction line. Elevate has a mixed berry flavor that makes it seem more like a fruit punch than an energy drink, while the Relaunch flavor is more orange-citrusy (which will remind one of the LiveWire line of Mountain Dew). The last is the Traction line, which grape juice drink lovers would love, because that’s exactly what it is, grape juice with a wallop.
Why Buy It?Being a long-time player in the soft drink business, PepsiCo knows how to package their drinks well, although the can may seem too busy, it is an energy drink after all. The only thing that can be bothersome with this drink is that it can be cloyingly sweet and it would seem to leave a candy coating in the mouth because of the high sugar content.
